If it is a dinasaur to verizon and the union is worthless and no one needs landlines then why did att just give 28000 employees in the south east a 4 year contract. Looks like Somebody needs somebody. It just verizon that has to dig their heels in and play hard ball every 3 years.
Management employees know all about riffs. Most have seen their share of colleagues who have been affected. And likely there will be more and this could hit home. But this doesn't take away the fact that the company has every right to make whatever changes they feel are required to maintain the strategic direction. And if that direction is wrong, the public has every right to not buy their products and drive them out of business. We don't have to like it, but this is the reality. How does the union fit into this picture? I see a place for the union with the highly skilled who actually bring something to the table besides an entitlement mentality.

Funny thing is, Verizon management is on here making comments about Verizon not being interested in wireline, but the truth is, Verizon isn't interested in anyone. They just want to make money at everyone's expense and when they don't need craft or management or non-union workers anymore, their jobs will be gone too. Just a couple of months ago, management was on this same very message board crying because they were getting rif'd now they grew some? Really? You are next. Always remember that. It is easier for Verizon to get rid of non- Union and management first. There is no loyalty! Laugh now! Collect your $ now.
How stupid is Verizon executive management? Once again they get scooped on their own technology.

Level 3 pick up at our Dmarc where I drop it off for them. They are not allowed to work in Verizon's wireline network. Only Verizon techs work in the network that Verizon owns and maintains. If Level 3 want to buy that Network than they can work in it. So who are you laughing at jackass? If you don't know then don't post.
If some of you think wireline is this big growing technology and dislike Verizon so much, why are you so worried about staying at a company you don't like using technology that is so cutting edge? Surely you could find jobs at other companies you like better, and surely this technology is everywhere because it's so important right?
The bottom line is there aren't a bunch of wireline jobs and the technology is going the way of the dinosaur. You can strike until the cows come home and it's not going to save the wireline business or make Verizon be any less apt to sell it off. People are stuck in the 1980s.
I'm laughing at someone who said Level 3 can't work inside Verizon's network. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Yes Einstein there are such things as different technologies, but that is irrelevant. A T1 is a T1 is a T1 and networks aren't sold at the circuit level.
Some of you really can't see the big picture and are hanging on to wireline like people used to hang on to betamax and VHS. If you don't adapt you get left behind and that's what we're seeing with some of the employees at this one business unit at Verizon.
They won't get rid of wireline in major cities any time soon. 5G they will try to use in rural areas most likely. Too bad because installing a new fiber network could bring back many dying towns in that have cheap real estate but terrible internet options. We need a new version of the Rural Electrification Act that would apply to HSI.
TLS circuits are everywhere, fiber fed. When a company consolidates dial to to this circuit, the company says landlines lost. Wrong, just transferred to fiber, again company spin.
If and when 5G replaces wireline for HSI, it will be done not because it is better than wireline, but because it is cheaper for Verizon, and more expensive for the customer
Level 3 cannot work in Verizon's network desk jockey.

There are tons of companies in NYC that use the Verizon network to run their business, including some very high end customers. Besides FIOS there are T1's GPON HSI, and other types of special circuits. Many customers might not even know that they get online through our network as they are billed by another company, nevertheless, they are using the wireline network. Many of them have no option as the cable companies have no presence in many commercial buildings
Land lines obsolete? Hardly. Except of course residential pots lines, and even these customers still have a wire going to their home that connects them to the internet. Some people might call that wire a LANDLINE. The only difference is the powers that be want that landline to be installed by non-union.
The best lies are mixed with a bit of truth, that's how our dumbed down media always get the story wrong.
That's why everything is moving to wireless. Companies like Verizon make their money on wireless and don't make money on wireline because their costs are too high (much of that because of unions). So they will get out of the wireline space and leave it to the companies like Level 3 that have a lower cost basis.
Wireless is even starting to be used in the wireline networks to cut costs, and with 5G technology coming on board the move to wireless-everything will continue.
