Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

One Shining Moment

Verizon Senior Leadership has been carving away at the quantity and benefits of all its employee base since Day One (June 2000?). executive, management, craft, and customer have all suffered significantly because of it....budget cut by budget cut, hiring freeze by hiring freeze, RIF by RIF. Organized Labor, I back and applaud your efforts 100%! Mgt employees can't do what you're doing (without losing their jobs) and almost every benefit Mgt has ever gotten is a result of matching a concession to Labor. Time off, pensions, and healthcare were the product of Union efforts, not "corporate benevolence". Be Strong CWA and IBEW, and may other labor groups rally behind and join the cause! - A fmr VZ Mgt employee

Wow, JHoffa has to be the dumbest f--- I ever read on these boards. Thank you for shaving off a few IQ points with that poorly written, illogical union rant.

Do these union people understand how many people have been laid off from other telecoms would LOVE to have a job at Verizon making half what the union gets paid and the (very good) benefits that Verizon offers all it's employees?

I'm afraid these union people are about to regret what they're doing because a) the wireline business is dying and Verizon doesn't want or need it longterm, and b) VZ will let this thing go on, lock out the union and replace them with new hires for half the cost.

This is not a battle the union can win and they are playing with fire right now.

The original post in this thread might be the dumbest I've ever read. Verizon's benefits are tons better than almost any other company -- and they're certainly better than any other telecommunications company.

This union doesn't know how well they have it, and they're about to be locked out and find out the hard way that they had it pretty good.

Its not a jaded view - I offer you facts. Unions are part of Socialism. Look at the politicians who love socialism and get "donations" from their unaware union members. Obama, Hillary and Sanders are all Socialists and they love the union pension coffers. The only difference is Sanders is admitting to being a socialist, but Obama and Hillary are nudging you that way. They don't want to admit it until it is too late. I mean, are you really saying that without Unions, we would slide into Socialism - Ha Ha.... look who you guys vote for. You blame corporations and capitalism for despair, but without the corporations you wouldn't even have a job. The only capitalism that creates despair is crony capitalism.

So let me give you the facts, here are why Unions are not needed and just create problems, so take the time to get yourself educated:

  • Are the Unions taking care of me and my family during the strike while I am at home? Nope.

  • Unions are supposed to be about solidarity, but why is it that only the Senior people matter. The Senior looks down on the Junior employee and couldn't give a crap about him. It only matters if the Senior gets his free stuff. Even if the Junior is far more intelligent than his Senior, he cannot move ahead of him.

  • Why need Unions when we have OSHA?

  • Unions create hate toward everyone. Take a long slow look at how you get your people to act and the attitudes they have. There are some psychological issues there.

  • Unions make costs of everyday goods go up. The raising costs of dues and outrageous demands from corrupt union management force companies to raise costs, which are reflected on the consumer.

Next time you go tho the store and you say to yourself "Wow, the cost of these just keep going up" - Well, you can thank a union for that.

  • Unions create sheep. Don't believe everything you hear from any union rep. Take time to research it yourself.

  • Always news about Pensions being plundered - why is that? The unions manage the pensions and trust with union trustees/ board of trustees. Some of you out there thinks that the company manages the pensions - not true, they just give money to it per the contract.

  • Why is your union management getting 6+ figure salaries and bonuses, while you are not. After all you're paying him. In the corporate world its the product that pays the management.

  • Your pensions are in trouble. If you don't believe it, then don't. But don't complain when you realize that it has been cut in half, then one quarter, then barely enough.

  • corporations and companies create something or a service. What have you done? Well you whine a lot and you think you are entitled.

With your jaded view Jhoffa, future workers can suck it. Let's say the Union goes away tomorrow, who left has any interest in protecting future worker rights? VZ? How's that working out for anyone? "market forces"? In IT that's a race to the bottom. The individual worker? sorry, there's another slob who offers more for less...you're out. The Gummit? You really want to take that step into socialism? You might not like it, but individual Workers joining together to create a single negotiating bloc, with economic, political, and skill set leverage is the only way to get VZ to do anything outside of its own self interest.

Get real - the whining needs to stop. Blame the HealthCare woes where it is needed...... Obama Care. It is a job killer, union or not. As for time off,,,, How many days is enough for you? You need to rest for actually doing 2 hours of work in an 8 hour day? Pensions - blame your Union Management. They are plundering your pensions every day - check their outrageous salaries and bonuses that the workers are paying for. Audit the pensions and trusts - you will be shocked at what you find. But it doesn't matter to you does it? - as long as the Ponzi scheme continues, where future workers are the ones that need to pay for todays retirees.

Quit whining, your not getting any sympathy.
