I have followed this blog for a few months, thought it was time I chimed in. I have been a customer service rep for the past 6 years. I have seen so many changes. One that really concerns me is the 3-4 coachings a month we have to have with our managers now. AT&T has set strict rules on payment arrangements and are quick to suspend service. So, we reps will get a red face for not being able to extend payment arrangements or be able to restore suspended service without full payments. the customer calls, gets made, receives a survey, gives the rep a 1 and we get a red face icon. Our manager has to listen to the call with the rep and then starts telling us how we can improve. Which is completely asinine. AT&T has changed the rules, they, the upper management have set the days a customer can get a payment arrangement it has NOTHING to do with the rep. But yet, if the rep gets too many red faces, they could lose their job. And the reps do NOT have any control over this. I had 4 red faces because of suspended service and not eligible for payment arrangements. I am on a written notice, and I could not have helped those customers, I even asked my manger if he would override the system to set the payment arrangements, he said NO we have to keep within the boundaries of what AT&T has set forth. I will turn 62 next month, I figure my days are numbered at AT&T I would love for the customers to know, that we the reps would give payment arrangements or turn on service if we could, it is upper management NOT the reps.

Constant layoffs, called "resource actions" hurt the company performance and kill morale. There is no opportunity for mature employees to move to another assignment, once they have been tagged in a resource action. Older workers are not wanted. The performance review system is a total lying farce. Employees do not get an honest evaluation of their performance. Workloads can be very heavy requiring much overtime for extended time periods. Pay raises, at least for older workers, are almost non existent. US workers are being replaced by foreigners working here on H1B visas.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, AT&T's disorderly layoff/ surplus environment makes people more inclined to put others in boxes, do you think I care?

I used to be a member of Local 1298. These people who are complaining are the laziest, whiniest bunch of losers who should be happy to have the well-paying jobs and benefits that they have. They could NEVER get a similar job anywhere else.

there seems to be calls happening across the board for many orgs tomorrow, they are way to mysterious in the email if it is not surplus calls... they have put a lot of people in a tizzy.

SD&A will be U-Verse and DirecTV, the new TFS org will be BSIM and SD&A-Core. AT&T is packaging up TFS in preparations to sell it. If you're on the TFS side of the business center or field you won't be working for AT&T soon.

Not a surplus call. The call is to announce core techs in sdna are being merge with TFS (nibs/ bsim) back to the way it was about two years ago. The surplus call will be announced at a later date. At&t is the communications provider for the republican national convention in July and will slash jobs after the convention.
