Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon hates it's employees? Why didn't the Union strike on the 1st of the month so their members could have medical benefits for a full month?

Verizon hates it's employees? Why didn't the Union strike on the 1st of the month so their members could have medical benefits for a full month instead of only a couple weeks? My guys, the few that didn't cross, are losing almost $300 a day not counting OT. Who hates the employees?

These scabs are spoon fed work.

But they are fed, which is something you won't be in a month. I know who you are and you live pay check to paycheck.

Let's see who's laughing when those health benefits run out, and whoever thinks Bernie will win is a fool. VZ donated to Hillary's campaign.

OK AGF, you are with your union brothers and sisters. Where are your true families? When you have no paycheck and only have 200 dollars brought home every week. Short-term might be OK. Think about long-term. Mouths need to be fed, kids' education and medicare. Will your union brothers and sisters pay that for you? No. Because they are at the same situation as yours. Be awake.

NSB. Unfortunately, they can finish one ticket within 1hour30minutes, even lesser. They just began to do the Fios things from last night. Don't be jealous, acccept the truth!

IT-India (intentional description) automated a lot of processes since 2011. The outside plant work is where EWAs are needed. If the Union inside work required a PC , it can be accessed from anywhere in the country where there is no Strike

Last strike I worked among some union people who crossed the line. Generally good, friendly people. They are not the enemy. They just want what everyone else wants but the union is led by people with politician mentalities who will never create a solution because then they are out of a job.

I worked temporary semi-skilled in a union shop years ago (not Vz) and was way more productive than most of the union people. I was even told to slow down and take my time. No thanks. They probably still work in that warehouse all these years later, but that wasn't my goal in life. That colored my opinion of unions in places where high level of skill is not needed.

Do it in one hour thirty minutes, whatever it is. Does not matter where or what it is he has to do. Get it done in that time if you are really bout it. Otherwise you are playing VZ tech, like a toddler trying to wear daddy's shoes.

HDH. Don't say that word "scab"! Nobody want to be there as EWA. They have their families who depend on them just like you union guys. Say something and do something right infront of Lowell! Otherwise, I think you are just a coward and a keyboard hero who is hiding behind the union.

YXG. Wrong! They are managers right now, it doesn't mean they are not technicians. My husband worked as a technician for 12 years at Verizon. He is a manager and he still remember how to do technician things.

No way an EWA is able to perform the same as a VZ tech. Impossible and to think VZ is running at half the normal rate without those on strike is ridiculous.

And also, if these union leaders represent workers' voice, instead of having salary which comes from union due, how about do it for free?

EGV. So true. Couldn't understand why there are so many people would like to pay 200 a month union due. Some of these people could have a brighter future without union.

They think union can represent everything for them. Sadly, there are no difference between union leaders and politicians.

They are preparing for the long haul no doubt about it. Hope the strikers are as prepared as they say. Sad times.

The bottom line is Verizon will be able to take care of most customers as soon as these EWA people get up to speed. And yes, there are lots of able-bodied people who haven't been called up yet. Vz has prepared for the longhaul. It will be painful to all, but is better than letting the union think they are running the show. Seriously, when did the union become a source of profit rather than a drag on everyone's paycheck.

IRY. Just like I said before, they are focus on corporate users not individuals. Since the haven't received any ticket from any company yet, they began to do individuals'. Just give a hand. I don't what happened in other garages right now. But it is all I know.

CKG. Good point about the copper plant. Most of my husband's colleagues aren't very familiar with copper. But, there are specialists in the whole team. These specialists will teach them, onsite, what to do and how to do when there is some kind of situations happened. On the other hand, they still have a supervisor, if they don't do or be lazy, they will be reported. Nobody want to lose their job.

The term delay is an understatement. The total on a regular day is at least 240.

QYE. OK, they are actually special forces for corporate users. As there are no tickets from companys but individuals. They began to take individuals tickets from 5pm yesterday. Before that, some of them need to find the way to open the vehicle's door because some union guys use some equipment locked the door from inside of the vehicle. And, of course, they need to find those "potential hazards" in their working vehicle. One of my husband's colleagues found three bottles of urine in his car. Today there are 4 tickets for each team. Totally will be 60 tickets. After they become more familiar with fixing Fios, there will be more tickets per day. So, there might be some delays, but the company is still running.

You husband nor the replacements will install or repair the copper plant let alone FiOS like the 40,000 on strike. Shareholders will ream Lowell's *ss when this is over.

Rjp. First of all, just like I said, my husband works for Verizon, not me. Second, seems you know a lot because you works for Verizon for a very long time. You might have more information than I have. But my husband has stayed at Verizon for 15 years. Although it is not longer than you, still, he has his own sources especially from these onsite EWA managers. As I know, all my husband's EWA colleagues have reported to the garage either yesterday or today. Some of my husband's friends have no strike duty. Which means, although there will be a short-handed period, the company still could find the way to keep it running. If unions were locked out at end of this month, then my husband and colleagues would have to stay a little bid longer until the permanent replacement comes.

Better pick up the pace two jobs by two techs (managers), what did they do the rest of the day?

cbk that is about the least informed comment that I have read in 30 years at Verizon. Of course the managers have to do their assignment. Most are not happy about it, but most are pulling for the union because they know that if the union gets crushed that the managers will lose even more, if that is possible. And no it is not cheaper, because when the strike eventually ends someone will have to clean up the mess, and right now no one is doing the manager's jobs.

Ivc. Whatever you said. The only truth is nobody want to leave their families to take that EWA job, but if not, they will be fired right away. Besides, why does a company want to pay a big amount of OT instead of hiring the unions? Because it is still cheaper than contracting with unions. Think about it beofore you call somebody company shill or scab.

My husband is a manager and they began to accept tickets from call center from yesterday afternoon. Actually, he and his partner already resolved two fios tickets yesterday. There are almost 30 members in their whole team and they are doing the same job as my husband. Therefore, these manager are ready for a long strike. Not like somebody said they are not prepared. For unions, if there are no further movement in signing a contract, they will be locked out and the permanent replacement, of course non-unions, will be hired. That's what my husband was told.

khs - if you take a look at the union's web sites you will notice that they actually have taken care of the health care issue for this strike, unlike the last one. The union has the upper hand in this dust up. There midweek strike already puts the company a couple of days behind and hardly anyone remembers what they are supposed to do on their EWA. That is assuming that they even care about it. This is not 2011.

Doofus or not it still shows how little the union cares about us members. I bet the union leaders are still drawing a healthy paycheck and that their benefits aren't gone at the end of the month.

What a dufus! The union was brilliant with their move and caught the company with its pants down. Most managers barely remember anything from their training, the company laid off thousands of people who they trained for EWA and the unions struck in the middle of the week when no one was prepared. They also struck when all of the presidential candidates were in New York, running on pro-American tickets while the company is bringing H1Bs in and shipping American jobs overseas. Sounds like the unions were pretty smart to me.
