Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Hope Verizon hold them out

I can't believe that these people want more money. I know someone who started there a year ago and they start out at $32 an hour in the call center. I don't agree with the amount of money that Verizon is making business wise either because if they would just lower the billing and give back to us the people as to charging us more. Example the new 20 upgrade fee. It's all ridiculous, maybe we need to go on strike against Verizon as people.

Don't want the paycheck a Verizon job pays...? DON'T WORK HERE.

Don't want to pay for Verizon Services.............? DON'T USE VERIZON.

Wal-Mart needs workers and boost pre-paid mobile needs customers.

See, mr OP, you have a choice in America.

Worked in FSC five years, now retired. $32 an hour close but no cigar after five years. Not worth the pay.....I beg to differ. Training and hiring process is extremely difficult. All FSC new hires had degrees in IT or extensive computer hardware software backgrounds. Testing during training...fail the test, you get one redo...fail that and you are walked out the door at once. Half of my class gone at end of 6 weeks training. Once on the floor, you will work weekends and crazy shifts, not mention forced overtime. In short you will be owned by Verizon, forget most family functions. You are monitored to the fraction of a second, not mention the morons on the other end of the phone screaming in your ear. Not worth the pay?....DO NOT talk the talk unless YOU have walked the walk!

Let the youtube videos begin. There is nothing funnier than watching clueless, unskilled workers trying to a job that is way above their abilities .... and just to suck up to the boss. "Don't worry boss, I'll get the job done. Can I go to the bathroom now?"

"The CWA and IBEW have 65 sick days per year that, if taken non-contiguously, do not require a doctor’s note or taking STD or LTD as an excused absence. That is 13 weeks of undocumented sick time per year."

FALSE. Verizon union workers can take 4 UNDOCUMENTED sick days per year NOT 65. Typical verizon liar.

I can't believe a moron would make such a post. Clearly one of Reed's Kool Aid drinkers who is unfamiliar with the business.

What I was told is (I am non-union:):

The co-pay health care costs equate to $1200 per year (not thousands of dollars).

The billions of profit that VZ made, were in spite of the land line group actually losing money for the past 6 - 7 years. Wireless drove the profits.

The suggestion is only to eliminate some of the union sick days. The CWA and IBEW have 65 sick days per year that, if taken non-contiguously, do not require a doctor’s note or taking STD or LTD as an excused absence. That is 13 weeks of undocumented sick time per year.

65 days????? I get 7. SEVEN. Don't tell me to "come work for a union" .. just tell me, what makes 67 days ok?

We are not looking for "more money". Wit the last contract I took nearly a 20% paycut. Verizon wants to take more. Enough is enough.

Telling you now it's now bs. Not only do they get that much but there is ALWAYS overtime. I mean they get time and a half for the easiest job. I believe the techs who do physical labor and have a trade should be paid what they get paid. They actually get thier hands on the products.

Yeah customer service specialists top off at like $35 it's insane, they don't deserve that wage at all and can't blame Verizon for wanting to get rid of the union. Technicians can make up to $1,500 a week ! That is insane but the truth!

Op, did you try applying for this call center job? Do you know what is involved in working at a call center? My guess is that you know nothing about the job whatsoever, so who are you to judge the payscale? The problem with high costs of service is not related to what employees are paid. If employees are paid less, that money simply filters to the top. The problem is the lack of fair competition and therefore the few major providers create and control the market. Economics 101.
