It rarely happens...Most people are so fed up they want to strike this company.
If you're talking Union members, you're fined for not showing up for your assigned picket duty. While the Union is taking the stance that you need to report for a full day for 2 weeks straight, I can tell you that isn't going to happen and it's my understanding there is nothing the Union can do. Should they start fining people for not doing as they say, they will have a lot of people resigning on the spot since there isn't much support for this strike. Sometimes they need to be reminded that the members pay their salary, not the other way around.
THEY BECOME UNION REPS.
It depends on the reason for not participating in the EWA assignment. Most or all Vacations are being honored. Health exemptions are available. There is no exemption for being a 'conscientious objector' or something similar. Those folks will be fired.
If you are a manager, you would be fired, likely with no serverance.
You need to officially resign from the union if you are planning on not adhering to the strike in order to prevent them from disciplining or fining you. You still must pay dues though and they still have to represent you in any grievance or issue.
