Unemployment benefits are not that much to be a differentiator, but the bottom line is I would not go back and work the EWA. They didn't want me so I don't want them.

they wouldn't get medical, lose umemployment, not be paid enough, be tranfered to the buttholes of the world, etc........
Who would go? RIFd in February; begged to go; walked away with what will be one of the last Severance packages at current rate; had a nice long separation period during which the company was essentially paying me to job search; had several offers; banked by fat severance; started with another company with amazing culture; 10K more than my Vz salary; equal bennies; a place where people are happy and smile; remote work options. Once you are away from VZ you really come to see how dysfunctional that company is. So much better out there people.
I heard they tried that in the last strike with a bunch of IT folks that got RIF'd. Verizon execs have no limits as to how low they will go to make their 9/10-digit bonuses and compensation packages.
If they ask you and you've already been RIF'd, don't do it. There could be financial/legal impacts.
This was a major tactical and strategic blunder on the part of Verizon, by firing thousands of trained managers with earlier strike experience before settling the contract. Now they are left with a much smaller crew of EWA workers, many of whom received their training almost a year ago. I look on this as karma catching up with the executive suite because there is no way that the company will be able to mainintain service. They were prepared last summer, but after all of the layoffs and Frontier sale, the have painted themselves into a corner. Now even a significant number of the managers who remain are pulling for the union.
Heard it happening to some people during the last long strike. For both outside plant and call center jobs. If you need the money I'd take it. Otherwise use the time to find another job. Remember you would lose unemployment benefits
Don't think they can given recently rif'd have been paid a sev package. think the rule is they can't come back for at least 6 months and only then as a contractor. But who actually knows.
