ajy you obviously do not understand how they cannot replace workers. Learn about labor law before you add your spin. The union has a right to strike and the company is attempting to spin it to meet their means. They think they can break the union but only if the union allows themselves to believe that. If they are smart, they will stick together and fight this together in front of national press with Bernie and Hillary at center stage, there is no way Hillary cannot respond to it. They are fighting for American jobs and they need to step up to the podium if they want to make that spin their own. Sheldon better be smart and not cave into the federal mediator nonsense. Most know that management is not prepared to take on the work between time and rifs and needing to train people. There were people assign to ewa that have not been trained yet and were not knowing what to do. many were to have training next week. Just buying time to prepare again. Yup not happening if union knows what they are doing.

Everybody has to keep their cool and a sense of humor. This is not 2011. This is about the survival of everyone. The union guys have to do their whole routine of screaming and carring on, but everyone has to remember that it is not personal and that it really is focused on those who will not be out there fixing phones and FiOS. It is an adventure. Some time away from the office and an opportunity to really see what the business is about and to actually meet our customers. All good things.

From one union person to ALL of the Verizon Union employees out there getting ready to strike tomorrow..have patience & vigilance during this process. Know that your strength in numbers fighting for what is right & just will prevail! Verizon is an extremely profitable corporation and unfortunately chooses to only truly reward the few greedy & selfish that are at the top of their corporate ladder. If Verizon felt they could replace all of their union employees when the contract expired last year then they would have. Guess what..they can't! Know that when the strike starts and these temp workers along with management attempt to do the work you all do on a daily basis will just result in frustration putting big pressure on the company to come to a fair agreement. Stay strong!!

Yeah but uyi, the point youre missing is they dont care about any of that. The way people with ewas are being strung along is just further proof of that. Strike will change nothing except to allow the company to expedite their long term plan to get rid of unions for good.

ajy I a long time manager. What is positive about a stike is that it will knock a lot of the hubris and arrogance out of the executive suites in BR, because they really screwed up this time. Such is their bias against anything wireline, that they missed their golden opportunity to withstand a strike, last August. Almost no one is prepared for a strike now. Many of the managers who were pushed out throughout last year were some of the people that the company can really use now, but they can't. Add to that all of the managers and tech types that just went over to Frontier and now Lowell and Shamo and Mudge are looking at a major calamity. So yeah - a stike is a positive to me and many other managers. If this keeps rolling the way it is, we will likely get some kind of reshuffle at the top by the time it ends.

Mediation isn't going to do anything except be a referee at the table. They don't decide or choose sides. Union has too much exposure now to back down.

...and yes, mediation has been offered, and Verizon has agreed. It is now up to the Unions...but you know Big And Bad those Union Leaders are....they have their own salaries (paid for by the union members) to earn!

Skd what is positive about a strike? I do not support most of what the company does to screw people, myself included, on a daily basis. But what do all you "strike, strike, strike" people think will happen ehen you walk??? Ultimately instead of a job working for corporate greed, you will have unemployment. This company is entirely too arrogant to think anyone who strikes cant be replaced in the blink of an eye. And if all you union people think a strike will change that and protect you, you clearly forget who it is you work for and why youre here to begin with.

Of course they'll still tell you that, even if that's not the case. Let's just say I won't be surprised if it's in mediation...
