If you are working in any of New York's 5 boroughs, you are in for a 'real experience' in the opening days. But as a few veterans have pointed out, and as you will find out yourself, the plant is in terrible shape because of a lack of reinvestment. You will also find out that the northeast is a rough place, and that is just how it is. Again - as was pointed out by more than a few others. Don't carried away and don't be a douche bag to the union and it will get better as the days go on. If it goes to three weeks a lot of it will die down as the union guys will be looking for work on the side to pay the bills. So if you want to be a stand up guy after a week or so, a box of donuts for the guys outside the garage may not win you a friend, but will make a nice peace offering. But if you are going to NY, Boston, Newark of Philly - don't be an a--hole. You cannot do this job like a real tech after a week of training.

It always felt like the execs were telling us to be prepared to go but were not worried too much. This mediation thing now makes sense and I would not be surprised if both sides knew this would happen.

Either way, my bags are packed ready to find at at 6am if I need to scramble. I hear the union people in Brooklyn are super nice and friendly people so I have that to look forward to if the strike unexpectedly begins.

mgc, exactly sad that people don't take this as a positive, spinning the negative as a vz win and a union loss

lyy - "no spin", as many wanted to see you walk. What you end up with will eventually dictate what we end up with. You give away a little means that we have to give away a lot in pay and benefits. But it you held strong then we would be able to stay close to status quo. Your loss is also our loss.

No word from the union regarding mediation. They want to keep their membership up all night worrying about the strike. Oh wait, I thought the Company was evil?

no commit to mediation from union negotiators simply means the boys are all out at the bar celebrating what a great job they did - too foolish to realize they sold membership down the river, no paddle, leaking boat .... what a complete joke these guys have been. All should be removed.

Do any union employees want a contract signed or just to complain some more? This benefits everyone except for those that have an axe to grind

I like the smell of rank-especially worn out gym socks.

Being sold out is not a cowardly retreat, it is being sold out by a traitor in the ranks. This time that traitor seems to be in the union leadership ranks. What a scam. The unions should withhold their dues, because I am sure that they can get screwed for a lot less by a much better looking h--ker.

Its a forgone conclusion. Right now the union negotiators, who are probably also on the company payroll, are convincing the locals that this is their only chance. This smells so bad that it is rank.
