hxh, mediation is always offered , the reason why you heard something now is because vz agreed to it, the union played the company game. and waited for an opportune time. Look at the timeline, its 9 months old.

@hgt Hate to say it (I'm not on union side), but other unions have been on strike, agreed to mediation and NOT come back to work... so I believe they CAN strike and agree to mediation. I don't know what it does for them at the mediation table, but it's possible.
mpd I don't think so. Nothing about this contract was on the straight and narrow. The unions workers should definitely look into an investigation. Everything was weird this time including the stock pricing jumping before the market openned. People knew. Wall Street knew.
The union so-called leadership has failed its membership totally here .... again. This goes into mediation with no strike, then membership will end up with the last proposal verizon put on the table ie the take it or leave it one.
Mediate and the following will happen 1) Pension frozen - 401k only option. 2) health benefit costs passed on to membership in the same manner it is already on the management. 3) membership will be transferred around based on company need - like it or not. 40 Anything that can be offshore will be offshore.
Union Leadership has done a great job here, they all got paid, still get paid and membership is on brink of a whole new world .....

nonsense. Verizon used back channels to get the feds involved. They are tight with Hillary, which is why the unions wisely back Sanders. You union folks have just been sold out. Lets just say that you will continue to give-back. give-back, give-back, give-back

That is the right way to go about this, because as the old saying goes, "when you've got them by the balls their hearts and minds will follow." Right now the unions can grab the company by the balls because they just sold off all of the managers who had a decent idea of how to band aid things until a contract is resolved. But this time the training was no where near enough to make it even as far as we did on 2011.
If you let the feds in without putting lomacs balls in a vice, then you will end up like the managers with nothing.
