Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

My great parenting skills.

I can't wait to go home and tell my five year old daughter that I spit on people today for doing their job. She is going to be so proud of me. Maybe she will spit on her kindergarten teacher and make me proud.

There will not be a strike. Verizon knows it. They have not made us book flights because the know the union will come back today and say verizon has agreed to bargain seriously now. In reality nothing will have changed. Union just wants to keep collecting dues.

"Not scabs, but will keep doing your jobs, until replacements are hired."

That is the very definition of a scab douchebag. Heres hoping you get laid off when this is over for being such a douchebag.

just Insults from the union.

Just a note.

  1. most people who have EWA's don't want be there.

  2. They have to do this, or lose there jobs.

  3. Not scabs, but will keep doing your jobs, until replacements are hired.

  4. Please do not insult eithere the union, or the EWA works. the union beef is with the BOD.

Please do not harass, for intimidate the EWA works, else I hope you go to jail.

There are many big guys who are black in the union with just as close ties to the neighborhoods. It is not worth getting into it with any of these guys. The only guys I know that were forever fired were managers who threw the first punches. Its a psyche game. Dont let these guys get to you. One of the garage bosses in New York actually has a couple of inches on you and more than 100 pounds. He does 500 push ups every morning and his wife is a prison guard. He keeps the peace. So should you.

If there is not a backlog of repair and installation calls then there would be no need for the craft workers. If by some miracle you can stay ahead of the workload then there is no need for the union guys. But you can't. Everyday the queue will expand larger and larger with new calls and recalls till it gets to the point where the customers complain to the state and the feds who will begin to investigate and find the company. This will likely result in a drop in stock price. So between the states, feds, customers and wall street, enough pressure wil ultimately build on the board of directors to fix their problem. So while these guys will try to keep you from hurting yourself on the job or making too much a mess that they will have to clean up later, it is definitely no in their interest for you to complete five jobs a day. Dont worry you cant keep up. This is a game of attrition.

Not sure how being there to video/harass fellow employees, non management employees at that, helps them get paid, but whatever helps them get through the day, I guess.

They do not want to be there either. They just want to get paid like everyone else. And remember, these folks do this in the rain, sleet and snow. Not even the mail carriers work in the conditions that the craft people do. The upside it that you will have a little vacation money when this party ends.

Wow. As a single non management mom with two boys at home relying on me to bring home a paycheck, this is all really a bummer. I have to worry about being harassed and video'd when I don't even want to be there...

@GRG0dCn-1sea you are not alone. Many former Contel, GTE and MCI people never worked a strike assignment before 2011. But because of all of the layoffs in 2004 till now and the sale of the 'good' and profitable wireline companies there are not enough managers with any craft interaction or experience. So now we have even Admin Assistants and Paralegals climbing telephone poles and hunting for dial tone. The problem is that much of the remaining plant has been neglected by the company as they pursue other interests. What remains is not easy stuff to work with. What you saw in training will look almost nothing like what you willl see in the field.

GPS is definitely your friend. Dont go down any road where you cant see your way out, and if a bunch of beefy guys show up in red shirts to a job that you are at. Pack up your tools and leave. Don't try to tough it out. Never leave your partner on a pole alone. If you arrive at a job where there are a lot of red shirted guys, keep driving, and lose those that are following you. If you can get on a toll road, they don't get reimbursed for tolls from the union.

Also ALWAYS look around the tires and tail piple before you drive away or you may end up with a couple of flats or a blocked tail pipe.

That said. If you take a looks at some of the videos posted, you will see that if you don't act like an arrogant SOB and you become totally lost with what it is that you are doing, these guys will actually help you out. Provided their is not more than a couple of them at your site.

It isn't that we don't have respect for Craft Workers, we are all answering up and respect each other for the most part. I think what is missing from this discussion is that most lines of the business don't have any history or dealings with a union. At all. I have been here 20 yrs and never lived in the NE or had union co-workers. For those in the same boat, seeing these comments and hatred for us is a real eye opener. I had no lack of respect before for Craft workers. Seeing these posts, that makes me question a lot of things.

If you are a Software Developer then you are paid as a "Manager" even if you manage no one. You are a "Consultant" which puts you in the manager ranks. You are not getting paid $20/hour.

I will say you are in for the suprise of your life. Some consider it an adventure. Though by the end of it everyone will hate the color red, again, but everyone will have a great respect for the contributions of the highly skilled Craft Workers.

Most are really good people, but far too many act like low life animals. Then again, we are a serious threat to their quality of life, earnings and family life. You will get to appreciate that once you do this job. All execs should have to work outside plant before they get an office. That they don't is the problem.

@1enr.... wireless IT for 10+ yrs, moved to enterprise IT last few years. No, never trained in Virginia, never needed to go. Never given an assignment. But employees with my exact title and band, not manager or above, we're given assignments this time around. No, this is no longer 2000 or 2011...this is 2016. New world.

I am neither a manager nor a director and I have an EWA assignment. I'm a software developer in wireless and have to go over 1,000 miles from my family to take the place of a union I support. We're not all managers and several of us have no control over what is happening to you or to us.

Srl, I understand what you're saying but the analogy isn't accurate - I haven't chosen to walk out of my house and thereby left you to parent my kids and sleep with my husband, haha.

We are just doing what we need to do to provide for our families, and trust me, I think that most others with an EWA hope that you are back at work ASAP with a signed contract, so that we can go back to doing our jobs. It's your job that you've been trained to do, but someone has to fill in and do what they can to help the customers. That's all!

Post ID: @btf+GRG0dCn

@srl WTF? Why would I walk away from my job? I actually have a bit of work ethic and would do what I was hired to do. If I wanted more benefits, then I would ask my boss or find a job that gave me what I desired. Nobody owes you sh--. You act as if this job is a right. If you walk away, you no longer desire it.

If the common enemy is the upper executive, what good does it do to harass the low level manager or random other employee with an EWA? Just curious.

How exactly are wireless employees who have an EWA destroying your lives? Keep in mind that not everyone who has an EWA is a manager. We have families too, and just want to provide for them.

Not all of us are against you, and I hope that you realize that when you're harassing the hell out of us just for doing what we have to do to keep our families happy and healthy.
