Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

With regards to the hard working union employees that made Verizon great.

With regards to the hard working union employees that made Verizon great. You already got paid for that work, right? Why do you think that what you did in the past entitles you to anything in the future? If you think Verizon is not paying you a fair wage then why are you working there? Is it because no one else will even come close to matching the wages and benefits you get at Verizon today? In the USA, Companies are and should always be free to offer whatever pay they want just as workers are and should always be free to negotiate the best deal they can get based on their individual skills, education, experience, and work ethic. Leave the unions for the socialists. I'd rather be free and stand on my own two feet than have a union taking money out of my pockets every week.

"I'd find another job Ken. What would you do?

It's not fantasy. It's not superman. It's taking care of yourself and your family."

I'd fight unlike you who is just content to run with his tail in between his legs while all the top dogs laugh. Remind me not to be next to you in a foxhole.

ijr, hahahaha ,due to what was said on here ?, Typical ignorant response. nobody cares what you think. You contribute nothing that helps working men and woman. Corporations stick together and figure out ways to set lower standards for workers and to foolish to admit it.

I knew this post would get all these immature responses.

It's so easy to make these Union people angry. The hate everyone that is not Union, but they also hate their own.

They take without asking and are always looking for more.

I had no opinion of Union employees, and specifically Verizon Union employees until I have seen their true nature on this site. Now I hate the Union because of how it's members represent themselves on here.

The very rich have started this fight, then successfully turned the middle class workers against each other. We need to realize that all workers Union and non union are fighting

Like dogs for the scraps of food the very rich drop on the floor. Collectively we the workers have built this country and we will always be on the losing side unless we unite as one and shut down these greedy pigs.

Managers: "If your job and benefits suck, quit"

Union: "No, in unity we will prevail with no givebacks. Lowell and Execs make billions, we should get a piece"

Managers: "...But that's how it works. If you're an exec, you will probably make a lot more money. What makes you think they will give to you? If you want to start your own business and be your own exec, then you run the business how you want including giving your employees whatever you want"

Union: "Because it's not fair."

Managers: "If it's not fair, quit - you work for a corporation out of your own free will - it's not supposed to be fair, business isn't fair. There's nobody holding a gun to your head to stay at a company you morally against."

Union: "No - we built this company from the ground up"

Managers: "true, but does the past matter? If you don't like your situation, fix it already - Go ahead and strike and see what happens. When they hire contractors to do your job for less then you can continue your fight for what the free market has already built while your family starves - then with your own free will you can stay with the company or find other work"

Union: "No, in unity we will prevail with no givebacks. Lowell and Execs make billions, we should get a piece"

This conversation is an epic circle.

OP You obviously do not know the history of what Unions have done for all workers in America. Your half baked philosophy is what the robber barons want you to believe.

Survival of the fittest.

Me or you.

If this is the case, then it obviously is the rich vs. the poor, that is reality. The rich already know this. Look up the Citigroup Plutonomy memo. See the exploitation of 3rd world workers and the environment, the destruction of the earth to benefit the chosen few.

The only chance the working class have against the rich is our strength of numbers

Deregulation and trickle down have not worked. The rich have gotten richer to everyone else's loss. Look out your window. The world is burning. The peasants are getting angry. Which side are you on?

So when a CEO drives a company into the ground and gets millions for it, free market, nice.

In your world it's rich and poor. Believe me that world in time would not be good for the rich. Also a shrinking middle class means a disappearing tax base. Who would pick up the tab for the missing funds, the poor? Again with this logic. Union numbers go down, the wealthy benefit, look it up. What is the problem with good negotiated wages, I do well I buy a boat, which makes the CEO of the boat company happy. I know, the rich are the job creator's, heard that before.

I've heard this argument a thousand times from people who don't understand how prevailing wages and contracts work. So let me ask you this - if you had an established career and your HIGHLY profitable employer suddenly changed the terms of your employment AND you had a matter of recourse what would you do? Don't give us your spiel about standing on your own two feet as some sort of Uberman, you know damn well you'd fight back and keep what was yours. And as far as being free on your own two feet, the wolves will have you soon enough because there's no strength in solitude.

I salute your nice fantasy scenario though.
