I have to laugh at the original poster. If they don't want to pay union people good wages to do a quality job what makes he/she think they'll get great wages to do a lousy one. If it's a manager that posted that well we pity you. It will not be an enjoyable time.

1sse looks like you lucked out. That is not true for most of us though. It will be a total bummer. Don't get to see the kids, too tired for nooky, dark when you go it, dark when you come home. Enjoy yourself. Not me. EWA sucks for everyone but our Betters.

This time the company totally cheaped out and set EWA assignments so that people are just under 50 miles so that they don't have to pay for as many hotels. In many cases that will mean an hour or more commute everyday both ways to get to an EWA assignment. And of course, once again, they pick all of the people from Verizon's backwaters to work inside New York. The managers need to fight back since they can't unionize and just go slow every day until the investors cry uncle and kick the executive manager's asses.
Nice try buddy. Look again at your email and read section 4. Clearly states time will be paid after 40 hours at the rate of time and a half. Also comp for travel, mileage, hotel and $50-75 per day for meals. As for not signing up for this then that's on you. If your going to manage in life you need handle situations that come at you. If you can't handle a job change after training then your clearly not cut out to manage. Hurry up and get out because I can clearly see your tears at the eyes.
I'm a 1st level manager here in NJ. They stopped paying us OT about 5 years ago. We receive comp time that they frown upon us using. I am currently interviewing with another company. Hopefully, things work out so I can get the hell out. This is going to be a long strike and I didn't sign up for an installers job. Best of luck to you all.

The last time the Union went on strike there were people threatened, intimidated, cursed at, spit on and that was just on the first day. I'm a non-union employee who supports the union to a realistic point. Not so you don't have to pay part of the health care costs, contribute to a 401k, justify tuition expenses and work hard to get the wage we get.....walking off the job accomplishes little these days because a majority of Americans don't get to enjoy job security and look in disdain on those who take it for granted. Meanwhile, I will have to work (no choice unless I want to quit) and probably miss take a trip my wife and I have planned for and dreamed about for four years. But what the hell do you care, you are fighting to keep the golden goose and then complain that Verizon is greedy. They most likely are greedy, but this sure feels like the pot and the kettle

@sil 1st level managers assigned outside their normal job are paid at time and half for all OT and will likely work 72-84 hours a week. Makes the bonuses look like peanuts.

Your not well informed, you cannot be terminated for going out on a lawful strike. Read NLRB Law.

Google nlrb and learn a little bit about labor law. We can and will strike and our jobs will still be there when we get back. This is not 1980. The Reagan/Bush years are gone!
Union strikes, Lowell says if you are not back within 10 days you are terminated, 18000 union folks return to work. Union is dead. I wish it wasn't so but that's where it's going. The are quite a few service reps, single moms and dads that just need a job.
Enjoy getting locked out after you walk! Don't you get it? You walk...you're not coming back. You think you are getting something by stomping your feet and crying poor, poor, pitiful me. But all you are getting is a walk straight to the unemployment line. And after months of looking for a job that pays even half of what you make now, you'll wonder why you did such a stupid thing for nothing! Just ask the employees who took the last EISP! To the original poster, you are an idiot. No pleasure in doing another persons job simply because they want to fight for their rights. There is no joy in crossing a picket line in doing their job. They are union and what you do not realize is that at least they have a way of fighting back. Who is there to fight for you when the next rif comes along? There is no one to say do not layoff many hard working people. So do not take joy in taking another persons job. Many who have ewa are not enjoying the assignment and do not want the money but we have no choice or we will be without work. We too have families to feed and a roof to keep over our heads just like the union member. The mentality of us versus them is the really stupid road to take and you are obviously an idiot. I would like to see you the day you lose your job and replaced by an oversees contractor then let us all see how much glee you get out of that. I wish all the union members the best and hope for a good outcome. Just remember that we too have families and are there not by choice.

@rth The Union people are the only people in this company that actually see's the customers, and does the physical work that generates the money that pays your salary...I would treat them fairly. For God sake's they built the plant. They built every inch of the plant that generates the money that pays your salary, that gives you a living. Now you want to bite the hand that feeds you? call them horrible names, disparaged them, throw them to the street and discard them. You are the one's people should hate. Your very ungrateful. These little girls think they are so great and make so much money. Little do they know we make more and don't get treated like garbage. We don't need to pay for protection. Just do your jobs.
