Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Gear Up Folks This Is Happenning!!!! Strike 2016!!!!!

Get all your ducks in a row, we will be on the picket line next week. There will be a move for all CWA/IBEW employees to drop there VZ wireless phone plans and switch to either TMobile, ATT, or Sprint. There are deals in place to buy out your contracts. We will also be recruiting friends and family members to do the same. This will be our first step. I cannot imagine anyone will want to send Verizon a check for several hundred dollars a month while we try and scrape to survive!!!!

The management comments are great!

Can't wait till your on a pole with aerial plant 30 years or older with that low voltage power line just inches away from your head. Because hey, it not that dangerous out there. No technician has ever been burned alive in the bucket, no never. Just keep that in mind while the wind is howling, wires swaying and your 20 feet up, oh wait you went to pole climbing school so you know all about this.

Go get you an extra k next week and we will picket for our pension, company match 401k and penny prescriptions.

I have never seen a manager turn up a TLS circuit. I have never seen a manager find a fiber cut and resplice while VZW is screaming to get it fixed, which happens everyday. Verizon has a lot of access lines and those customers don't wait like a POTS or FIOS customer will. The mangers in those worlds will have it easy, the real managers will beg for Lowell to settle. Ethernet is Verizon's wireline cash cow and they won't let orders pile up for long! IPTV and iOT have to much invested to fail, why do you think they want this contract situation finished on their terms. They want to roll out all this new wireline technology and then have the contract to weed us out and replace us with contingent workers, this is the plan of all American corporations.

Verizon pays no social security or Medicare taxes for contingent workers, offer no benefits, they don't even withhold payroll taxes. They also are not required to pay unemployment for contingent workers.

Don't fall victim to the propaganda!

Be strong brothers and sisters!

Stay informed!

Why don't you just cancel all your services with the company? Cash out your 401k while your at it as well. What about the stocks sell them back as well. You idiots really think things thru don't you. Don't realize that wireless and wireline are the same company now. To your stock that pay you will loose value. Yeah so at the end your only hurting yourself and have to come back to a company who will take more from you. You don't live in a world of give me give me give me. Your an employee of a company who makes profits. This is America and if they want to pay you less or take things away you don't have to stay. I own my own business and had to hire new help for less money. Why? Not because I was making less, but because I wanted to make more money to retire sooner and buy a vacation home. I was able to get cheaper help that worked harder making my other employees work that much harder since they realized cheaper work was out there. You guys are not performing brain surgery or have a talent that can't be taught. Trust me this is not going to end well. The company just doesn't fall into over a billion dollars of profits a month not a plan.

Maybe one day you will open your eyes and make it out there instead of being lazy and overpaid.

This company is all about numbers. Has been for a long time. So when the second quarter numbers come out be prepared for some hysteria. I would say the average VZ employee has at least 3 lines, multiply by 39k. Looking at about a loss of at least 100k subscriber lines. We will also be suggesting to retirees, their millenial grandchildren, neighbors, friends, extended family, etc... To drop VZ wireless and go to any other carrier. AT&T would prob be the best bet. You could prob even get a good deal and bundle Directv. This is how we we will be spending our time off the payroll. Not just walking in circles chanting catch phrases. Welcome to the new strike tactics.....

MKi, same reason company wants cheaper labor , why pay more if they can get it cheaper. Keep biting the hand that feeds you

pgi, why exactly would I want to give my money to a company that wants me off the payroll? Let me guess, you must be one of those go-getters who gave up a pension for a job title and has put Verizon before his wife, children, family and friends, only to wind up losing them all. Hate to tell you the bad news, you're next in the RIFF's. Enjoy the rest of your koolaid.

If I can get service cheaper why would I say with Verizon. Just because they employ me I am not married to their service.

I hope every single one of you knuckleheads who cancel your VZ service are fired, immediately and unconditionally. Spend your money with your competitor like morons, apply for jobs with them while lounging at home, wondering why you aren't deserving of a job at a company that you openly conspire against.

What a bunch of loser morons who have their head firmly planted so far up their assyou can't see reality. There are millions of Americans who would gladly take your job and use the services of the company they work for.

And you wonder why Unions are becoming extinct - what a bunch of idiots.

They company was screwed last time around. Two weeks in they were telling people not to worry about fixing anything, just make it look like you know what you are doing. And the new training teaches even less than last strike.

Would be fabulous if all with an EWA assignment reported to their regular jobs also...now that would be something

The company was on it's knees by day seven last strike. No matter what you heard on lowells daily propaganda recordings.

No doubt the techs jobs are not fun all the time. But the concepts of telephone service/data service/video service are not that hard. I was deployed last strike and the job was not that hard save for when the Union wasn't jacking with you by removing your temporary steps or spiking the truck tire side wall. The manager will do well enough particularly when there is line trouble and they suggest the hub. Drop it in get signal and go. They did well enough for 15days last time and the company could have gone much longer.

Its true!

Major corporations will soon all be operating their businesses and trading stocks over 5g using the go90 app!

Police, Fire, Railroads, Radio, Emergency services, all will operate exclusively on cellphones.

Server rooms and IT personnel will no longer be necessary.

All cable companies will fold and go out of business unable to compete with 5g and go90

You all heard him, there will be NO WIRES in New York, Boston, or D.C.!

5G is coming 5g is coming.... once 5G is operational. Lowell will be able to bring video into the house "WIRELESS;y"... Set up a small cell site in major lcoations and ...pooof ...Boston NY DC Pittsburgh Newark, Fairfax county will no longer need Wires... thats the plan. 8 months of contract negotiaitons only got VZ closer to a full launch of 5G. It saddeneds me but the tech job will be virtually absolete. Sure 5g might not make it to Schenctady or Lynchburg but wherever VZ can get major customer numbers, the wire will be gone. THe End is near

I took EWA training for a copper technician. Work related to pole climbing can be hard, but it is nothing that cannot be done. Same goes for copper cable troubleshooting. It is really really not hard. A person can work independently after a week or so. So to those people in the union who are really boasting about it need not to be jerks. I am not looking forward to EWA assignment. But if it comes, I definitely will not be scared. If I can help some customers, I will be proud of that achievement.

Ccw, no need to be a jerk. Yes, we are all aware that people who haven't been trained as heavily as people who do the job daily won't be as good, but they're still trying their best to help customers. At the end of the day, isn't that why all of us have jobs?

Mocking people on YouTube just makes you a bitter and pathetic loser who has nothing better to do with your time.

xqv is an idiot. I heard that almost none of the trainers had any real outside plant experience and that most of the training was on work arounds and no real troubleshooting or repair. Cant wait to catch some of them up on a pole for youtube funnies.

I am telling you now that the leadership thinks they have a plan. I have been assigned EWA and that was so long ago. Nobody j talked to remembers what the hell was taught is a crash course of a couple of weeks. Not put these people who have never done the job in real world environments and you will see the stress. I honestly believe that even if the same contract gets signed, the leaders will have a new found respect for what you guys do and out up with everyday. You can't think you can do a job because you manage the people who do it. Managing a metric and planning how to get there is not the same as doing it.

People are giving the leadership way to much credit for preparing for this strike. Yes they sent us to training but nobody has even been brushed up on what to do since before August. They never thought a strike by oils happen and have been more worried about making thier side of businesses look good. What are they going to say to Lowell " my numbers suck but I have all the info I need for my EWA when it happens

UWJ is right that the company could care about the wireline customers, that is until they start getting fined for what they have been doing and not doing for wireline customers. The company also has legions of untested and untried managers that will be working in the field. Most who have never worked a strike outside. This time is different because more than half of the managers are pulling for the union to win. Make these wireless thugs sorry that they ever pretended to be telephone peeps.

If we go on strike will they shut off the striking employees, company provided cell phones and tablets? If so will this count as lost subscribers in the quarterly numbers? If we can get the 39,000 striking workers to drop their VZ cell service and actively promote others to sign up with another provider such as AT&T They might see a real hit to the second quarter numbers. If we go out, lets make it count!!! Its going to be more than just a bunch of men and women sitting on the sidewalk with picket signs.

uwj, that's ridiculous, they are in business to make money day to day, your opinion to run it down would make them lose double if they decide to sell wireline.

laf go for it strike. You forget that they could care less if the managers Jack everything up and drive the wireline business out. It plays into their hands.

The headline will read like an article from The Onion, 39,000 Verizon employees quit simultaneously. Problem is, it won't be satire. We are replaceable (we aren't brain surgeons) and going on strike will only further solidify this in the companies mind. BUT, if a strike is called, I will be out there holding my sign for 8 hours a week. Maybe I'll get a t-shirt that reads, "I went on strike and all I got was this lousy tan" in the color red of course.

They trained secretaries and lawyers and HR slime. Bought them new boots and used ipads and new sets of tools for those afraid to work in a garage. Thousands of trained managers have been laid off, many others sold, and those that remain are the asskissers and the unwilling. I hope the union breaks it off in lowmacs asssideways. I look forward to calling in where ever I see a manager pretending to fix a call. lomac and his pussy gang wanted an econimic war, so give it to them and make sure everyone knows that this is no longer an American company but an H1B one.

There will be no strike... Not this week. The company is prepared for this. You think they do this without the preparation. They have been training thousands of employees to marginally handle driving the company into the ground while y'all are out... If y'all strike, you will be back with tail between the legs before the end of the month. You won't pass the period where you lose benefits like healthcare. No serious strike and the union will settle for a weak contract.
