From Verizon, Update on East Negotiations

Management and East Associate Team Members:

Late this afternoon, the Company presented the New York/New England unions with a comprehensive proposal that included our last best offer on both medical benefits and special incentive offers. The medical and special incentive proposals are based on discussions the Company and the unions have had and incorporate many of the unions’ ideas.

The Company’s offer will increase the overall value of our employees’ combined wage and healthcare benefits package.

As part of this comprehensive offer we also withdrew a number of Company proposals, including proposals relating to collections (CFS) call sharing, 401(k) fees, evaluative observations, several medical issues and one disability issue. Our proposal on work at home was withdrawn for the CWA and IBEW NY but we continue to propose work at home opportunities for IBEW-represented employees in New England. We also offered to withdraw our proposals on Sunday tours/premiums and temporary assignments in another state, but only if the agreement is ratified by May 20, 2016.

It is important to note that there are still significant open issues, including items relating to pensions, call sharing, contracting, wages and other operational issues. After more than 9 months of negotiations, we need to bring this to a conclusion. Today’s comprehensive proposal brings us significantly closer to that objective. There remains work to be done to address the open items that are of importance to both sides. As was the case with the last East bargaining cycle in 2011-12, the issues will remain on the table, with or without a strike.

In Mid-Atlantic, there is no progress to report.

We will provide further updates as we move this process forward.

@1bno After you strip away the grandfatherly traits, you start to see the real Bernie Sanders, the Marxist that despises the middle class. There can be no middle class in a socialist utopia. Wake up you fool, learn something about the guy that you want to become president.

This is to the poster who said its a company's job to make as much money as possible and we shouldn't be angry because they have provided us with a decent living for a long time.

Have you ever hear of business ethics? Decades ago when the U.S. economy thrived, businesses had a different perspective than what you and today's CEO's. They felt it was the responsibility of a profitable company to to basically share the wealth. They would employ the people in the areas that they were selling their product and provide them with a decent living. This practice helps keep the economy strong which in turn means longevity for the business since the consumers have more spending power.

You think the workers should be grateful to these companies for providing jobs? How about it works the other way around. These companies should be grateful to the consumer. The consumer is the average working class American. If a company is making 10 BILLION a year- is that not enough? Where does the extra money they want to make go? It definitely does not contribute to the economy. For instance- a company outsources let's say 10,000 call center jobs to a foreign country. That's not just 10,000 jobs lost to the American people. Those jobs would require office space, desks, computers, someone to pick up the trash. Those workers will buy more goods and services with the money they earn. At least an illegal worker in America needs to buy food and pay for transportation and rent. Outsourced jobs on the other hand - nothing is coming back into the American economy.

Corporate Greed must end!

I was with Pacific Bell for 4 years, part of them as a CWA worker. I was appalled how the CWA rolled over and played dead when contract time came up. They might have well said 'wanna scratch my belly as well'. I eventually became an engineer and then moved on when I figured out it was gonna take 20+ years to get 'promoted' due to the good ol boy network.

CWA has no teeth and no balls.

What is it with you folks and the hope that a single person, a Politician, will ride in and save the day. It is a company's job to make as much money as possible, it really is that simple. These politicians, that you hope are going to ride in and save the day, are the ones who created these loopholes that have allowed these companies to continue to take away from the US worker. And because of these loopholes, we can be replaced quickly and cheaply with foreign labor leaving us with no leg to stand on.

Your anger should not be towards a company who has, let's be honest with ourselves, provided us all with a very good wage and benefits for many years. Nor should it be directed at the Union members who have all sacrificed in the past to secure the wages and benefits that we are currently enjoying. It should be directed towards the people you are all hoping will be your savior.

I agree, Bernie would jump on the bandwagon and Hilary would be forced to join in. If we were out on strike it would put the spotlight on Verizon , and what is happening to its employees ,making them the poster child for corporate greed .

Makes sense. Start thr strike before Sanders/clinton debate next Thursday. Carry it out through the Tri State primaries. It will be good background fodder for the talking heads. Prepare, for a ling fight brithers and susters. This is more than just your normal union strike with the phone company. This may be the last fight we get period. Sanders is our only hope in Americe for the middle class going forward and we will have to support him to the end. Clinton is bought and paid for and the Republicans view unions as a costly inconvenience.

CWA response April 7:

Regional Bargaining Report # 50

Thursday April 7, 2016

The CWA District 1/IBEW Local 2213 and IBEW New England Regional Committees met yesterday at the Rye town Hilton.

Last week during off the record discussions the Union laid out to the Company a path to a contract by addressing the Company’s critical needs. We also made it clear to them that in order to reach an agreement they would have to address the Union’s critical needs and drop all of the remaining retrogressive demands.

Yesterday the Company gave us a proposal that contained no movement from their previous proposal to address our critical needs. There was no movement in wages, it continues to freeze pensions at 30 years and still allows them to increase contracting and off-shoring of our work.

The Company’s proposal still contains retrogressive demands that include:

Job Security- Eliminate the no-layoff protections for workers hired before 2003 unless the Unions agree to other concessions

Disability- a diminishment of our disability plans for members who get injured on the job

Call Sharing- the elimination of home based routing, a reduction in the percentage of calls and the ability to route all calls for new products or services to contractors for 9 months

Corporate Profit Sharing- Eliminate

Closing call centers- the closing of centers that would result in transferring members up to 80 miles from their current work location

Force Adjustment Plan- the ability to declare surpluses and offer IPP by organization which would circumvent seniority within your title

Article 8- the ability to transfer members with little regard to seniority effectively destroying the Article 8 provision in the Plant contract

Work/Family- reduce the funding by $600,000 over the life of the contract

Tuition Assistance Plan- major changes that would drastically limit the courses a member could take

Dependent Eligibility for benefits- Eliminate sponsored children and Class II dependents effective 1-1-18

In their proposal, the Company also had the audacity to threaten our members that if a contract isn’t ratified by May 20th they would have the right to temporarily transfer technicians from Massachusetts to Virginia for up to 60 days while allowing technicians to be transferred into your state to do your work and make Sunday part of your regular workweek.

The Company’s proposal also shifts more healthcare costs on to our retirees even though the Union had agreed to allow the Company to implement a Medicare Advantage Plan that would save them tens of millions of dollars.

Verizon is a hugely profitable and greedy corporation that is intent on driving down the living standards of the workers who make their profits possible - not because they “need” the savings, but because they “want” the savings and they believe they have the power to do so.

At this point, every member should be ready to strike at a moments notice!

CWA PRESIDENT CHRIS SHELTON WILL BE ANNOUNCING A STRIKE DATE WITHIN THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

Verizon can implement the final offer and you will take it cause your leadership will not do anything. you pay them to do nothing, maybe you need to pay more dues.
