Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

VZ Taught a Lot of Lessons!

The 12/15 layoffs were hard - so many great and loyal people impacted. You gave so much to VZ - helped to make it a top US brand - only to be kicked out.

I've been blessed - got a promotion at a new organization. Dealt with years of being overlooked for promotions, so friends could get hired and promoted. Get to pocket the severance windfall!!

For my fellow Ex-VZ Team Members:

  • Believe in your talents, trust in what you can do - it's VZ's loss.

  • Over 50, consider employment with industries that value experience.

  • Always treat your team members with respect - it's more than having great benefits!

  • Promptly look for other opportunities when a culture isn't good - don't stay because of great pay.

  • A career is a journey - be realistic - always have your resume 1 hour away from needing updates -

don't get comfortable with any company.

  • Keep a growth mindset and stay positive!

I wish you much success - stay centered, prayerful - press forward to the future!! VZ should be in your rear view mirror!!

Agrred that VZ should be in your rear view mirror. I was layed off last year after 22 years (15 as a manager) and took a couple of months off to spend time with my wife. Jobs are being offshored so prepare yourself. Subsequently found a contract position with an investment firm. Things are looking good. Had a phone call on Monday with Fed Ex who wants to interview me for an IT manager position. Hopefully all goes well as I enjoy my current job, but an employee position (depending on the company) is always a preferred way to go (in my opinion). SO to all you VZers out there, stay focused on yourself and always do what you feel is right for you and your family. GOOD LUCK in the future.

Good post and agreed: Verizon taught me you can give your all to a company and work tirelessly to make them successful only to be discarded like yesterday's trash.

I also learned that Verizon hates it's employees and even hates it's customers. Using both to please shareholders. I hope there is a day of reckoning for such a terrible compmay.
