Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Lowell, Union Leaders and Fellow Membership, based on the lack of movement in the negotiations, I'd like to make a proposal.

A 5 year contract in which all previous language would remain the same, with the following addendums: a 2.5 year wage freeze, followed by a 3% wage increase for the balance of the contract, in exchange for free healthcare and job security for our remaining members. I believe this deal would be favorable for both sides and we could then get back to business. Please post your thoughts.

Sounds like a good offer. Give the union that deal and then sell the company to someone who WANTS to be in the landline business and make gobs of cash from fiber expansion.

Economics 101: the purpose of any company is to maximize profit. Doesn't matter if the company makes 1+ billion a month, the amount of current profit is irrelevant.

If the company can hire a contractor at 50% of the cost of a union member and they get 51% of the productivity then the is what the company should do from a business perspective. Unfortunately the union have priced themselves too high compared to alternatives and I think the company will hold it's ground. It's not personal, just business.

I would pay for healthcare and forfeit raises for job security. Not ever going to happen.

I think Job security is the big issue for both.

Needs of business, needs of employees are clashing at this point.

Revenue is at best stagnant for wireline.

Not sure VZ would accept this.

In due time, a contract will be signed.
