Updated Union Tape

Saturday, April 2, 6:30 pm. All Verizon members should be on high alert for a strike. Yesterday, at the Rye Town Hilton, the Union met with the company and delivered an "off the record "document which made hard to swallow but significant movement, and met the two critical needs that were identified by Verizon at high level meetings. In an email yesterday, Verizon’s Minister of Propaganda, Marc Reed, delivered his latest if you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it missive, and said, "issues have been narrowed but significant differences between us remain. There is still substantial work for the parties to do at at the bargaining table on all issues."

So now the facts: the facts are that YES issues have been narrowed, but that is only because the union has moved and met the critical issues that the company identified. YES, there is substantial work to do, but since the company has not met any of our critical needs which we have identified, it is their responsibility ONLY to get to work. The company was told in very clear terms yesterday that they have done a tremendous job of shaking the tree to see what they can get, but there is no more fruit to collect, their basket is full and there is nothing left to grab. We are done. We have met their critical need in health care and met their critical need to have some flexibility to address true surplus conditions. We told them our expectation is that when they come back they must meet our needs and take all the garbage off the table. We told them we do not want to strike, but we are ready to strike and our members are ready to strike. We have done our due diligence, we have met our responsibility to our membership and have bargained in good faith, and we have made significant movement and have not been obstinate, unreasonable or arrogant. That distinction goes to Verizon only, who had no right asking for concessions in the first place. We are done. There is nothing left to give.

Hahahahahahahaha. Now the company is telling us when we are done. They even know we are all smoke and no fire. They called us out and now they gave us a date to accept it.

I call it now that we will be on high alert again trying to get everyone stirred up. At the end we will bow down like last time and sign by their May deadline. We are weak and it's sad.

Marc Reed sent out another update tonight, Best and Final on healthcare. It's nearing the end.

Love these updates we get. Monday came and went. Maybe they meant Monday in August. They really mean business this time. Guess the union presidents are in bed with the company. They keep up these "off the record" conversation God only knows what we will loose then.

I am with @GL0bc3D-1luz. I am a Union member. There is no reason to be in a hurry to strike. Just settle down and keep working and getting paid. A strike will not help. If anything it plays into Big Red's hands. Just let the process play out.

the 1998 at USWest,

was a bunch idots posturing (on both sides).

I worked information in Pueblo.

The union won a few consessions, as did management.

no strike was needed.

You are getting paid and working under your prior contract. The company trained thousands of managers to do EWA strike assignments a year ago, then laid off thousands of the most eperienced of them. But it is not enough and they will need to lay off thousands more. They company also wants to screw the union employees in their benefits just like they have done to the managers and retirees. The company wants to privatiize all of the profits and make the government responsible for all health and welfare.

The closer we get to the election. The more "American" employees fired to make economic room for H1Bs, and the worse the economy gets....the stronger the union.

Can we do some research before we actually post something.

Yes we are working without a "contract" but all of the 2011 contract terms are still in effect... Pension plan....pay...work rules....ot pay....no layoff clause from 2003....etc...etc

I still don't get what striking has to do with being laid off.

I still don't get why some people are in hurry to strike.... We are winning right now working....This could go on for years for all I care... Union employees are still covered by our last contract in 2011... Just be patient... Without the Union, 75% of jobs at Verizon would be all contracted out.. basically all outside work would go away....stay together

Dear Kevin,

You know just like the company and your loyal brother and sisters that you are not going no where fast. All your doing is show the world your all talk and no action. Take a survey and ask your members what if any faith we still have and I can tell you it's not much. Days of past when we said something we meant it. Strong demonstrations and rally's to get the word out before social media. Unfortunately we have leadership who are not seeing the changes that need to be made to get our needs meet.

People out side passing out flyers are wasting money. Emails are a waste of money. Tv advertisement is a waste of money.

There are many people in the social media who are against the big companies and for working Americans. People who have millions of followers that listen to what is being said. Will boycott, call and complain to the company.

The company doesn't care about the employees issues union or not. They care about the consumer only so when they start making it a big deal they will listen.

Instead of all your members calling election boys have them call Verizon and Verizonwireless call centers and ask for a contract. Call at night time and ask those vendors for a contract. Flood the company with calls and make them see the impact they have when customers have to wait to talk to someone. Go to a wireless store and "shop" around. Kick some tires and talk about the benefits of the union. Tell them that your not ready to buy and have them call you. That's when you can talk to them with out management around.

Until we have an impact on the business we will not get what we deserve. So stop talking about a strike when it's never going to happen. Spend your efforts with a better strategy please and thank you.

In 1998 at USWest, we went on strike for a contract worse than what we had. I can guarantee it was a mistake. That was our last strike and through Qwest and Centurylink name changes, we have done nothing but give back since. And I truly expect nothing but more give backs in October of 2017.

Strike and see how prepared they are.

If there is a strike, it wont last more than 30 days. The management in place could not run a flea circus. VZ thinks they are prepared but they are not.

Stop talking up the union....YES we are lucky it still exists, but the law is the only reason we still have our jobs. There was a day when the union actively, day to day, fought and won for its membership. Now its merely stemming the bleeding. The idea of organized labor is alive and well in my heart, but this is a fuggin joke.

you all have no idea how lucky you are to have a union. Those Union leaders should be thanked daily. Try dealing with this or any corporation without one. its no fun. Good luck

Union member aren't the only people posting on this board. The net is controlled by no one. Create your own board then you can make your own rules.

So let me get this straight. The leadership offers the company a "document that was hard to swallow" i.e. A giveback to the company, and then threatens to strike? Strike for a contract that is worse than we have now, admitted by our own leadership? Please tell me where this makes any sense.

Keep working and let the company be the bad guy. If we walk for a contract worse than we have now, it will be a fatal mistake for the Union leadership, it's members, and the members' families.

Kevin, thanks for carrying on the tradition of screwing the membership. If we would have went on strike immediately, we would have been back to work with a contract months ago. It's time for you and your whole group of cronies to step down and never be heard from again.

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it somewhat like a strike is coming soon, or be prepared high alert if we don't have a contract in the next couple of days we will be on strike, someday someone might believe it. Not me but someone. LOL what a joke this has become.
