So many posts saying:
"We didn't vote to strike, we voted to give leadership the OK to strike when the time is right." "If we don't like what they offer, we can vote it down."
"Have faith in our leadership, let the process play out."
I love and am proud to be union, just like my father and grandfather before me, but people, it's time to wake up and get our heads out of our asses.
When is the only time we see any sign of our "leadership?" Exactly....... When it's time for reelection. Every year it's the same bullshit from the same bullshitters. "Vote for me, I have your best interests in mind. I'll be at your location regularly with updates and to hear your concerns."
I want to know who voted yes to accept the loss of job security. Who voted yes to accept paying for healthcare? Who voted yes to accept call sharing? Who voted yes to allow Verizon to record all of our work conversations? Who voted yes to allow Verizon to screw future members out of a pension and health care? Please, if we had the option to vote no to the contracts that have screwed us so bad, then who in the hell voted yes to approve them?
When is the last time the union had to pay its members strike pay? Exactly...... more than a decade ago. Yet, where have all of those funds gone? Currently 39,000 members, roughly $1,000 annually per member. Where is all that money?
Our membership continues to decline......100,000...60,000......39,000. I wonder if the number of "union leaders" has been cut by the same percentage. Not likely, nor has the amount of money that a select few continues to collect.
Has anyone heard any news on our members who have been unjustly suspended, terminated or laid off over the past year? I didn't think so, we haven't been told sh-- and neither have they.
Some how, some way, the membership needs to get together and turn this around. Our voices need to be heard. Enough of this nonsense, "mobilize, mobilize, mobilize." How about doing what you're being paid to do? Listen to your membership and we have said it loud and clear, STRIKE NOW. If we don't put an end to the ignorance of our current leadership, we will have no members to fight for in the not to distant future. Please, pick up the phone and call your local every day, to express your feelings regarding our current situation. Tell them to listen or resign.
