Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

NO STRIKE AGAIN

Are you starting to see the pattern? Towards the end of the month the union starts their rhetoric about going on strike. I think they do this to save face in case the company locks everyone out. Once that doesn't happen they don't say anything for weeks then we do this song and dance again. It's getting old.

1db I'm management and you are 100% correct. Vz would $hit all over management with low pay and benefits if not for the Union. The reason? Vz are not fools, the last thing they want is the unions infiltrating into management positions. There is no doubt at all the benefits I enjoy, and that goes for most management people, are a direct consequence of the unions.

No I'm not a Union troll

Yes I am management

Yes I realize the absolute sickening greed of vz

Yes I know senior management don't give a damn about anyone, but themselves.

I also reconize that far too many Union people see this job as their birthright and they are therefore, "entitled."

I also reconize that many Union people are so full of blinding hate for vz that nothing will satisfy them, except to see the company burn.

and every day that you are getting paid and able to put another dollar away, makes you more ready for a longer strike and the company weaker. With all of the layoffs over the past couple of years and closing of the sale to Frontier, the company becomes less in a position to defend its tougher northest markets if there is a strike. They have trained secretaries and tax accountants and lawyers with soft hands to supposedly scale tale telephone poles in a single bound. Because the company has so abused its copper and slowedthe roll out of FiOS, they are just simply not ready for a long, loud, boisterous stike. Not when it can easily become associated with foreign workers taking American salary jobs to foreign countries, and who now wants to also screw its long-time customer facing technicians and linemen and customer care employees.

We have been preparing for over 9 months...

That's not, not doing anything. Preparing for a long stike is really doing something. Finding some place to work on the side for a couple of months to pay the mortgage and cobra while the company craps all over itself in public. The unions could lean on all of the other unions to lean on their money managers to lean on the Verizon board. You are in better shape than you realize, if you are preparing.

That's a lousy plan. Do nothing? Well people around me are getting suspended left and right for things that are really stupid. This company is picking people off one by one and we are just sitting back and grateful for what we got??? Really?? The company lays off techs last year and then forces everyone mandatory overtime a week after they do this and the union did nothing?? In fact, no one even hears about this. It happened in Pittsburgh and everyone is pissed!!! But ride this contract out as long as you can because apparently it's working out for all of us so well??? At this rate we will all be fired before we get a contract!!

When in doubt, don't do anything. Every day that goes buy is a day that the craft and union people still get paid with the same benefits, save more money, and find another place to make some money if there is a strike. And every day all of those salaried employees will forget another think tgat they learned when they were away for training. And every day angst will continue to build in those managers worry about their EWA assignment, get tired of boot and glove checks and worry if they are going to be laid off in the next wave of rifs this quarter. So why rush to go on strike? The closers you get to the election the stronger you are for a very long strike wthat will break the company's anti-worker will.

The rush is because I get my balls busted all the time. I am not alone, these managers and supervisors know they have a short time to start getting people out without any recourse. Guys have been walked out for stuff they normally wouldn't. The company is looking to pick us off one at a time and it's not just one area. I want to get my fair contract, do my job and know I am good. We are sitting ducks. All these kool aid drinking, get on your knee cock sucking, no good lazy pricks who listen to what is being told as the word of God need to wake up. These are the people who think they are being looked out for only to see that the only thing that was taken care of was leadership. Don't be a sheep, we need to continue to ask what the hell is going on. This is our future not thiers.

Hello Dumb ass Why the rush? Who the hell wants to work without a raise? I work hard and want what I should be getting not this old crap we have. Maybe you don't deserve an increase but the strike is the only way to get the company to listen

So true. We agreed to strike back before the contract expired in August. Now beginning of April still no contract and still no strike. Every time I put a call into my union steward never returns the phone call. My steward retired from VZ 6 years ago. How can a person who doesn't even work there anymore represent you?

The Union will never strike. They are too weak. They know exactly what they are doing too just like the company. Playing a big game. Keep paying those Union dues. They certainly are standing up for you all. Let's see this great contract you'll be getting this time.

I think if the union does strike, it will be at the year mark in August, like last time. Striking in spring doesn't make that much sense anyway. Late summer, vacation time for tons of employees, hurricane season, a full year with no contract, etc.

I hope you don't strike, I don't want to work forced OT for this sh#t company.

I can hear my manager on Monday, "you're still here" . We look so stupid with our picketing then going into work. We are just being laughed at, it's embarrassing.

I love all of these Kool-Aid drinking management turds who have little idea of who and what they are defending. If they were to go back and read the posts of the former long term employees and how most of them were treated, they would be singing an entirely different song. They think that they will be treated better but in fact they will be treated much worse.

They will have no retirement benefits apart from their phone discount, which is still much more expensive than T-Mobile. They will have no pension and no retirement healthcare apart from obamacare. So go ahead and taunt the union workers and remember that when you are riffed, and you most certainly will be, that you will have nothing after you turn in your badge except a foul taste in your mouth from all of the asses you have kissed.

Instead of asking the company for a contract (which is the job of the union leadership) and continue to picket on our time. We need to start asking our stewards to strike. Enough members voicing their voice they will realize we mean business. The union wants this back and forth to go on for as long as possible. The means more money and another 2-3 years before they need to figure out what to do next. How dare they go to these meeting on our behalf just to talk with nothing proposed. They expense the travel and meals on our dime. Just like we like to get our the leadership is not stupid. We voted to strike but are ignored. What else are we being ignored on? Time to get angry alright but at the CWA leadership.

I could collect unemployed if they lock us out, nice. Do you really believe this management would lock out it's workforce, NO. I'll going along with the union rhetoric, but come on.

Totally agree. Very very weak union. Further apart now on medical issues than they were in January. The company should lock them out. Just playing games.
