I recently attended a party that was given by a vendor in honor of several Verizon employees recently layed off from the same office (all of which were over 50 years old) . The party was held on a Saturday night at a local banquet hall. Although turn out for the party was pretty good, I wondered why 4 tables had nobody sitting at them (they were fully set). I found out later that aprox 40 Verizon employees had intended to attend only to be told by management (on Friday) that if they attended they would not have job on Monday morning. Not one employee called th host to tell him that they would not be attending.

Don't believe it..? Must be a new guy in his first 6-7 minutes on the job. All these know-nothing managers think you bowing and cowering to their every demand is what makes a manager. This extension of it has been here for a while now. "No Party or you're history." Sound's about right.

What's truly funny here now is the tremendous amount of disgruntled employees. VZ is unraveling, lets watch the laughable leaders throw more money at their failing sh-- show.

Weekend night? If they were in IT they were probably working, without comp or on call pay of course. The sounds of his all night open bridges are something my household does not miss. It has been hard, but so happy to have our life and family member back. That being said, I do believe my husband mentioned that there was some sort of ban on favors from vendors, or maybe that is at his new company which would make some sense of the forbidden attendance. Anyhow, they should have given notice that they couldn't come.
VZ should get hit with a class action lawsuit for the 40, I am sure at least one of the US constitutional amendments or bill of rights has been violated. Time to payup again Lowell, you scallywag dog, old insane out of his mind dog

What's wrong with going to a party for former co-workers? Threatening employees like that sounds illegal to me.
Not surprised...not long ago we had a Sunday Union softball benefit tournament for a very sick employee to help him and his family...The company ran the list, and held overtime to try and kill the turn out, even though there was no work load at all, and they had not asked for Sunday overtime in months. They did this all the while knowing this employee was dying and leaving a family. Real sc#%bags.
Verizon doesn't even like it's customers. It continues to lay off thousands and cover it's tracks.
"No class" - that is part of the Verizon credo: talk a good game for the cameras, crap on your employees and replace them with H1Bs when no one is looking.
