Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Big Retail Changes

3 retail channels are company owned retail - authorized retail - and national retail. Bunch of National retail management jobs mostly already merged into authorized retail channel. Remaining National Retail will turn to third party management eliminating some authorized retail management jobs and ALL national retail management jobs. Authorized Retail and Company owned retail management will then be merged. Already done in many markets.Authorized Retail store expansion will complete this year and then will swallow up company owned retail stores and take them from union to non union, non ATT jobs. Dealers are being swallowed up by large, national dealers which is mandated and planned by ATT. No authorized retail management backfilling in many markets

The hybrid model is already in place where I'm at. However that doesn't mean that will be the case in the future. We already have Anderson Merchandising, taking care of merchandising in Walmarts, that could extend into all NR locations quickly and easily. The NR channel can easily be moved to a 3rd party merchandiser with 1 or 2 heading the NR channel on a support level basis with very limited in store visits.

The Authorized retail channel has been slowly replacing the AE's job by introducing the C&C model, now they will be finishing the job by making it Identical. Opus you can do the majority of what AE's had to do for them. That can be handled by 1 or 2 heading the AR channel and remove the rest of the AE's from their positions.

ATT will be cutting 100k jobs as said from the CEO by 2020. Can't cut that many jobs all at once, but this is now the second mass layoff in 2 years in the AE channel. First it was all the RAMs and the NRFRs, next will be the majority of the AE's. Probably need to learn a new skill and get out!

Most of this is correct. However, we are moving to a hybrid model for national and authorized retail...not a 3rd party.

That is very extreme, bit it wouldn't surprise me. The growth days of wireless are over.

not all stores. Most stores. They can cut 90% and turn the remaining company owned stores into fancy showrooms. They also want to even outsource all the internal ATT people supporting the third parties who number in the thousands. The cost per activation goes way down when you pay a third party versus union people. Right under CWAs noses.

So your saying AT&T wants to get rid of all company owned stores and turn them into indirect locations?

no that is national retail. att has reps who are visiting all places where att postpaid is sold. authorized retail look just like corporate stores and have 3rd party reps but they are supported by a different internal att management team. the managers trainers etc who work with these points of distribution are now in trouble.

Authorized retail? Is that akin to the AT&T kiosk in a place like Best Buy?
