The training courses are pointless. Speaking as a software engineer, the training courses are embarrassing. But AT&T values them over a Master's in Comp Eng and 10 years experience coding. It's asinine.

Stupid managers are common within ATO. If you are a senior technical director you would assume you understand technology, but that is not the case. We also have senior technical architects and principal technical architects that are for the most part clueless. Most of their careers they spent going to meeting, dealing with vendors, combining data from AOTs into spreadsheets, etc. if they had any technical skills there are gone. However, I think this lack of knowledge is being noticed within AT&T, thus there are this idiotic capabilities evolution training going on now. Today, we received new orders to from senior managers to continue to pursue more training. I have to say that I went through a lot of these course covering a lot of different roles and I have to say they are fairly uselss. Don't get me wrong it is good to know these stuff, but to be good at anything like being a software engineer for instance requires many many many years of hard core development and knowledge. These courses seem to give management a false sense of security. Basically, it AT&T does not get a grip on reality they will be gone by 2020 :)

I'm the poster who said all of ATO is data entry. I was on a team that was system administration for UNIX and Linux servers and out of 12 people, 4 of us actually knew how to use UNIX environments. Our manager just had us pulling logs and entering stuff into spreadsheets. I was pretty friendly and got to know other ATO teams. The lack of knowledge is staggering. It's just glorified data entry because the managers are too stupid to know anything.

I disagree with the comment about being something wrong with a low stress job. Some groups just have better management and are run better than others. One of the results is less stress. This is not exclusive by any means but from what I've observed, former sbc and bellsouth groups seem to have some really poor management teams; more so than other groups.

It does not look like training and certification help in regard to being laid off. When your number comes up you are done. If you have low stress job, then something is wrong. Most of us here work for 5 people and it is getting worse.

How is the outlook for those individuals who keep track of training and tech certifications in the southeast? Most work from home, love their job and AT&T, very low stress job compared to most at&t employees.

"Many people do not know where they belong. We are all bouncing around the place. "

---this is a recipe for a surplus. Shoehorning people wherever based on a whim and NOT talent. And then when that doesn't work - bye bye. Even if you were a rockstar in a previous org

I see type of managerial incompetence through out ATO. I know of a manager who keeps talking about run book, documentations and troubleshooting guides and has no idea what they mean. He could not pull it off with a full team and trying to pull it off with 1/4 the size. He presented his idea to TM who basically laughed him out of the room, yet he is pushing it again. The morale here sucks. Many people do not know where they belong. We are all bouncing around the place. Pretty much anyone good I talk to are all looking for work. The future in ATO is not good. We are sinking fast. Yet, the leadership is pushing some crappy cultural series on employees. What they think that will change anything.

Anyone is a Subject Mater, but the real Experts are leaving at a record rate. Incompetent “buddy system” managers delegating their work are moving up and allowing the 80% to run the place. Write up’s are thought of as a “coaching tool”. Most SCG /PCG managers with very little technical knowledge.

ATO's Survivors of layoffs rarely get much sympathy, though they suffer guilt and the pressure of heavier workloads as they pick up the slack, the call center environment is plagued with incompetence, starting with management , The worst thing they can do is create an environment of trepidation, yet this is something AT&T management thrives on

Very limited view. ATO is the largest org in the company. There are very many jobs that have nothing to do with data entry.

ATO accomplished nothing in the last 3 quarters, it is time to cleanup" the leadership " and leave " US " workers alone

They need to wipe out most of ATO. The Directors and Area Managers just want it to be a data entry organization. Most of the employees in it only have high school diplomas and no skills. They need to wipe out a lot of people so the people with skills have a chance.

This is not really news unless you have specific groups. There is always a management surplus going on somewhere in the company. That will be the case until or even through 2020. Some are small (in the dozens of people) some are larger (over 1000) but there is never a time when there isn't a surplus in process.
