Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Strike rumors

So the last official update from the District 1 was on 2/5/16 (3 weeks ago) and from District 2-13 on 2/19/16 (a week ago). The update from District 2-13 said that all local Presidents and mobilizers were called to Philadelphia to prepare for the next steps.

With the exception of a couple of NY locals posting a strike is "imminent", we have heard nothing from the leadership. A simple we are still negotiating would go a long way. Instead we hear silence. It is no wonder the rumors of a strike continue to abound. I'm wondering if leadership is allowing this to happen to get the members to get more involved with informational picketing.

Wow it's amazing that we once had the power to negotiate and protect our benefits from these greedy pigs. In the old days we wouldn't stand for this. Why do we pay for dues? We are without contract and protection but the locals get their money either way. Time calls to ask out stewards for answers. Enough is enough with this crap. The lack of updates and progress is killing me. It's time for our brothers and sisters to stick together and demand something be agreed to from the union we belong too. All we get it these updates saying we may go out, don't buy stuff, do overtime and quit loving your life. I want to spend time with my family period. This is why i am work. I don't want to be told that this may happen so grow a pair and do something if not shut up and let's get this contract sign.

Take a look at the number of people who only read this "strike" blog versus the number of people who take the time to write stating their point of view or their belief? A few write to refute other bloggers statements or accusations. Some, regrettably, just relish being abusive.

What I see is, statistically, is only around 1% of people care enough to show support, commitment or an opinion. 99% sit on the sidelines and let other people take the load. Over these many months that weak, sitting on the fence, in silence, by both the Union leaders and the overwhelming majority of members, coupled to months of failing to stand up and be counted, has translated itself into a majority of union members with no belief in the justice of their cause and no guts to fight.

The silent majority of union members would readily and gladly accept the old contract, if only vz and the Union would let them. This will not happen. VZ wants the Union gone, not the techs, vz still needs many, not all, of the techs, but they want to have those techs by the balls. Well on their way to achieving the demise of the Union and complete, slave like, control of the techs, vz will, a year from now witness techs fighting among themselves, like rabid dogs, for a job that is a 100 miles away.

Happy days for vz.

BTW I'm not a troll, I actually work here.

I'm not an a-hole because I have a valid, but different, opinion than the abusive minority.

I'm not a basking ridge cronie, long long way from there.

I am a management person, and have an interest in getting out of that damn EWA assignment.

Let the abuse commence, but pls try a little harder to be original? a-hole, management fag, butt kisser, Fauck-face etc have become old and tedious. A lot more imagination and a lot less emotion would be a pleasant and welcome change?

@1tqp You are a liar whoever you are, Verizon has not hired a Union position in years, and has continually downsized any Union positions as part of there end game for the Union. So you are Liar... Also, with your poverty BS that you couldn't handle 14 days without money, is a pathetic attempt in my opinion by someone inside the company to scare people. Why don't you just go away you Liar. Your not scaring any Union Brother or Sister, and as a matter of fact, Just giving us even more resolve to fight for whats fair against this greedy company, that's full of Lairs like you.

1tqp, a good portion of your overtime should be set aside every pay for contract/strike time. You stated that you're new. Where are you located that Verizon has recently hired for a union title?

I'm not hearing anything!!! I will continue to come here cause I find out more here than anywhere even from local. Joeschmucks board is silent too

I'm new and can't save the money it would require to be without pay.

I wish our leadership would just negotiate a damn deal similar to our previous contract! 2 weeks out at the most, but it will still hurt my family financially! I may have to find a part time job and if the strike is a long one I may just have to find a new job.

-rhi "This board IS NOT the place for posting Union issues. Your Union leadership told you as much last week . Each district has their own blog /comment board..." Bullshit! 1109 - no update since 2-5

1108 2-5 1101 no update but fear mongering letter on 2-19

1118 2-5 recent post pulled. I could go on including NOTHING from the national .

The only email updates I get are town hall political calls and we are giving your union dues to Bernie Sanders updates.

Looks like people want to talk strike not layoff. Once the contract is settled or a strike called people will go back to talking about losing their jobs.
