Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Now that I have my severance pay, how do I make VZ pay the punitive damages? Are there any lawyers that can take up the age discrimination..

Good folks from all age groups, male and female, were let go. There are no grounds based on age discrimination. As far as the severance package goes, the company (by law) does NOT have to offer one. Verizon is an "at will" company and only has to say your services are no longer needed to end your employment. Its a tough place to find yourself without a job, but the law is on their side. Good luck with your next job!

Power in numbers. You should easily be able to get a dozen or so who were pushed out the door for the same reason. I believe you would start by filing a complaint with the local court/magistrate against your manager to get the ball rolling.

@YCW....You are right....Unfortunately OP will have to pay a lawyer $250/hour to sit and read the passage in the Severance Payment agreement to him for him to understand he has no case. Very few lawyers want to go up against Verizon.

I think law does not allow criminals to buy freedom with their fat wallet. They will goto prison irrespective of irrational agreements.

File a complaint with the EEOC. They CAN sue Verizon if the claims have merit. I filed a complaint right after I got my severance pay.

You can sue anyone for anything. Verizon does whatever it wants, whenever it wants , then gets mad when challenged. Neil Diaz pulled their card.

There is no way a judge or jury wouldn't understand that the severance agreement was signed under extreme duress and verizon knows this.

Once severance is taken, you may no longer hold Verizon accountable for any wrong doing through civil action.
