Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

EWA training

Dog and pony show will start soon I haven't used a ladder or skills for over 20yrs WHAT DO THEY EXPECT FROM US? Actually they expect very little its a show of numbers not skill they don't care about the customers their time line is three weeks before the backup is so great it cant be contained. After the third week its blame the union for everything from installations to service even the condition of our copper plant. The leaders don't want to be in this very lucrative business why you may ask yourself because the current management is from wireless. In closing I will offer this piece of advice I was once in your position trust that this strike will open the appropriate eyes and all will begin to heal the cancer that has invaded our lives. Now I will finish packing for basic training.

Wow it's amazing that we once had the power to negotiate and protect our benefits from these greedy pigs. In the old days we wouldn't stand for this. Why do we pay for dues? We are without contract and protection but the locals get their money either way. Time calls to ask out stewards for answers. Enough is enough with this crap. The lack of updates and progress is killing me. It's time for our brothers and sisters to stick together and demand something be agreed to from the union we belong too. All we get it these updates saying we may go out, don't buy stuff, do overtime and quit loving your life. I want to spend time with my family period. This is why i am work. I don't want to be told that this may happen so grow a pair and do something if not shut up and let's get this contract sign.

4qft, before you get laid off, I hope you have the opportunity to go out, climb some poles and sling around that 80lb ladder you p.o.s. Here's to hoping you aren't raising any daughters.

Up the pole climbs some poor smuck

All Fingers are crossed, he'll need the luck

If we die, vz won't give a phuck

@1MOK, You should have put in for medical exemption BEFORE the Aug.2015 strike deadline. I put mine in March 2015 (just in case)...No problem whatsoever from HR. I still was assigned an EWA but it was in an office, not outside.

Loved your training story. Be careful with the letters from the Doc. Makes them angry in normal times, can't imagine when under pressure.

-1tha Yup -and that's just the training class. Where you are working in ideal conditions. Wait till you get to the "real" world . most of the time the customers for repairs are "ok" when we get there. They understand that things can go wrong. But wait if there is a strike and you get out there.

They will have been OOS for several days . probably given a big run around already. Then you get there and start ( no offense intended ) bumbling around . The customer getting more impatient, union walking in front of the house. have fun

I took today off. I am going to the Dr to get an excuse to not be assigned an EWA.

There is no respect here for anyone.

I can hear the lauging through the wall to my bosses office as they talk about "contigent work plans."

I CAN HEAR YOU TALKING ABOUT ME!

I have a whole new respect for the unions starting yesterday.

The work you'll be doing is just half the fun...add miserable weather and jobs deep within DA HOOD where the police won't even go, and you're free boots won't matter one bit

Well I feel insulted and have no interest in taking part in my assigned EWA.

First I'm assigned pole splicing or pole repairs, pole something, whatever. I am assured that climbing the pole is old hat and today they use bucket hoists. Still I'm required to prove that I'm fit enough to climb a pole, just in case. I climb, no problem. Then I slip. The a$$ of my pants rips out and my dignity and other unmentionables are displayed for all hands to see. Decency should have prevailed and called for, at the very least, the female contingent to look the other way, but no, they gawked.

Next the truck, That thing is BIG. And all that damn noise when you are trying to back up? BEEP, BEEP, BEEP. How the hell can anyone drive with all that beeping is beyond me. I look this what, that way .......it's not my fault. Those idiots on our "team" kept signaling me to backup, backup. I knocked over the stupid climbing pole. Thank goodness nobody was up top.

Manholes. How on gods green earth can people go down there? It's a rat cage. You can't breath for the smell. And oh my what "things" are down there. Benny, a large jovial character attempted a descent. No go. Next we see sexism at its finest. None of the "we deserve equal pay for equal work" female contingent wanted to go down. The supervisor or more correctly the gruppenfuhrer (look it up, I'm not your mother) looked at me and I blurted out without waiting " one of them should go down." Pointing at the women. What do I get? Horse $hit. One of them management bs " it is what it is" peals of wisdom. We all descend, minus Benny whose butt couldnt fit thru the manhole. Beelzebub's kingdom. (Look it up lazy b'stard). We eventually returned to the classroom, thank god. Coffee and doughnuts were waiting.

VZ ? Give them whatever they want! In the name of sanity. They are not human, they are rodents. Crawling thru the sewers and into dark, disgusting places where "things" live.

I'm done. Went to the doctor. I have a coriendactic misalignment of the supine. Over to you girls.

Be careful guys. You can become injured and VZ will treat you like trash. Again if you choose not to take EWA training then they will fire you.

I mentioned this in another post. The only way to put an end to the EWA nonsense is to start a petition. I'm sure you could easily get 10,000 or more signatures, not to mention horror stories to go along with them. If anyone's job is threatened or if anyone is fired, a class action lawsuit would be an easy victory for the good guys & gals. Until this is done, Verizon will continue to exploit it's workers regardless of the physical danger and negative impact on the customer.

We were told in a meeting that these positions are easily filled. There is truly a disconnect between the labor and management they have no clue what is involved in maintenance Preventative or demand let alone installation and service and sadly no interest. We who have been promoted from within from the field are aware of these issues but we are a very small minority and are being pushed into ewa then I presume out the door like the rest. Please post any advice or ideas that may help us have a voice to help stop this downward spiral. We and I believe I speak for more than just myself would like to help save this company!
