No one in their right mind would even consider what the company proposes. Everyone was upset that the union agreed on the last contract and that was a disgrace. An extremely profitable company asking for givebacks but the CEO doesn't follow this lead and gives himself millions of dollars as a pay increase. Disgusting! After being with this company for nearly 20 years I would rather lose my job and at least try to maintain what we have then give back on major issues. If you think about it we ended up losing $$$ on the last contract because we had to start paying for benefits. We ended up taking a pay cut for a company that makes billions of dollars a year. This isn't a GM! We shouldn't be talking about giving back what we currently have. I am ashamed to work for this company with how they treat both their customers and their employees. It's a matter of time before this company goes down with all the stuff that I see that goes on behind the scenes. I hope the union does go on strike whether we win or lose. We have to fight this corporate greed!

zic you are most assuredly NOT working in the real world. Telco jobs pay some of the highest salaries and have really good, if not great, benefits when compared to the rest of the country. When consideration is given to the fact that many techs have no college education, you got it made. That's the reason why you all have 20, 30, or 110 years working here. Laid off twice before coming to vz, I have worked in that "real world." It is a cold, hard bitten, miserable place. Creature comforts consisted of a piss in a bucket and a cold cup of coffee. In those jobs you say the word Union once you'll be warned to zip your mouth, say it again and you'll be out of a job and on your way home, real quick.

Easily replaceble. By who. There is but a handful of people in this country that could replace a verizon tech. Even a newbie that got 10 years cant be replaced because this place is so horrible if you last a year you are a hardcore badass tough son of a b×!%#

Every single member of our unions should be READY to strike. We've all had 3 plus years to prepare for this financially , yet I read so many comments that suggest it can't be afforded . If that's even slightly true, then shame on our union leadership and some of the membership for not responsibly preparing for what we all knew was coming. Over 3 years of forced overtime ( at least in fios ) , force adjustments doubling our commutes, QAR's over nonsense, and the overall disrespectful treatment and lack of concern for quality of life. This job has become one impossible expectation after another. What I find truly amazing, is if you read posts concerning those chosen for EWA , their major complaints about their assignments are the long hours, the "being away from their families ", can't make plans to do anything in their personal life, etc.etc. These are all realities of day to day union techs that most of these same people have no sympathy for. We all need to understand that we are in this fight together!! We can't afford to lie down any longer. Strike ?? Yeah...I'm ready!!!

That is exactly the problem. A "union" is meant to act as a single entity. What is good for one is good for all. There is definitely an issue with union leadership if they allow sub-divisions within the union, regardless of geography. All it does is diminish power and add confusion, which is exactly what companies like Verizon want to happen.
I am in District 2-13. There has been absolutely no news of a strike here. I know in District 1, there was a letter sent out saying a strike of epic proportion was imminent, but we have not received anything like that in this district. It's like district 1 is ready, and this district is not. Unfortunately our union in VA, is not nearly as strong as in New York.
