Do you have latest death count on EWA training victims?

I dream of the day when the 1st and 2nd levels grow the intelligence and balls to march en masse into the state PUC offices and tell the PUC officials that the company has been getting away with murder for years now.

I've experienced walking out and quitting a job once in my life in early 20s.....right after 9/11....making up a story why I left that place followed me a couple years, thankfully that place is no longer in business lol though I was tempted to walk out I fought them head on to their nonsense and left with my dignity intact...file ethic complaints, document everything...don't let them get their way...they love scapegoats!!!!

Spoken like a true manager.

Not one ounce of compassion for the frightened employees reassigned to comply with a physically challenging position against their will, with work or get fired consequences. This is not Russia!!! Money Money Money. Life- Family and Happiness are not about Money or worth the cost of a companies ill will and poor decisions made against any employee. Their decision to leave is not "dumb", if a company is putting them at risk. This is why Unions were formed. I think at this point the entire company Wired and Wireless should become Unionized to protect who ever is left from this onslaught. There should also be an investigation on all the foreign workers, especially engineers in the NJ offices. It's a Half price sale going on in there compared to the local American employee ratios....... Disgusted Greed Filth This is how you make 200 billion dollars people ........SMH

Dumb move in leaving EWA without securing another job unless you don't need the money

As someone who has very happily moved on from VZ, I feel bad for the employees who are stuck doing EWA. On one hand the union doesnt have any sympathy for people who have to do it just to keep their jobs and make ends meet- you'd think that union people would have some compassion for those who are in a similar situation of getting screwed by VZ. But, no, they're nasty, antagonistic and obnoxious. Guess what, if they didnt have management people willing to do these jobs while you (hopefully successfully) bargain with the evil empire for a fair contract, Lowell and his band of jerks would just get a bunch of fresh over the border people to replace you at 1/3 of the cost. These poor schlubs in management are just keeping the seat warm if there is a strike.

I was assinged EWA before I was mercifully RIFd, and I took no pleasure in potentially doing the union work. I was told never to travel far away, always to stay ready on weekends. Ruined the summer and fall for the family, but have to put a roof over the head. I dont get why the union calls Verizon employees scabs and yells at them, they dont want to be there either...they dont want to do your job for 12 hours, then go to a hotel in some dump and do their own job too. The whole thing is because Lowell is a tool and a horrible CEO.

I also did the same thing, I resigned the minute my training was over. I participated in the training and displaced myself to Virginia for ten days leaving my family on a holiday week of vacation. It was vital that I leave my position in the middle of a project to learn how to climb a telephone pole in 100 degree heat and install a FiOS terminal. I watched a man die on those telephone poles at the NCC during my training. All the company cared about was the response time from when the ambulance arrived to the NCC and made sure a Verizon representative came in and told us employees (soldiers) in each classroom face to face and recite the fabricated story. You see, there was zero safety precautions taken for our "training". No emergency staff, no doctors, not even an EMT..... So now we all have first hand witnessed accounts of the cover up from the Monster, they will be justified that the death was accidental or of natural cause and they were surely not at fault! Office workers are not fit to climb poles or we would of applied for the position. Most of the employees at the training were middle age men and women, with excessive years of services. One woman in my class was 63 years old and never been on a ladder before in her life time. After my training was over, the following week I resigned. EWA was reason #5 of my resignation, but none the less it was the straw that broke the camels back! The company does not care who you are or work for, my entire department was sacrificed and not one manager, director or vice president went to bat for their people. They are all spineless cowards and I can't wait for them to join me on the unemployment line with their $90,000 Mercedes, I will open the door for them! Enjoy your massive stock options assholes as you send all your people down the river. Your next! Let me know when the class action lawsuit is made, I will be their with bells on!!!!!!!

I don't know the Union situation as I was at Wireless and I couldn't agree more that it is a horrible place to work. I'm so happy that I'm longer part of a leadership team that created the massive lay-off in Wireless. The cut-throat, back stabbing and dishonest culture - with creatures who have lost their souls for a paycheck is just too toxic. There's no way I'd want to be a part of the organization after such an awful event - glad I was able to jump ship and get a nice severance windfall. I've found other employment and even got a promotion. I wish all of the Union and other laid off folks best of luck!! May God bless you!

That's a little one sided (to the previous post). We need a job, just like union employed people.

That would be like saying, Why dont you just cave in to the companies demands and sign the damn contract, or if you don't like the contract, then quit.

Its either quit without severance, or do the EWA to continue employment for us non-mgmt aka non-union personnel.

uuo is correct. If everyone had a spine like the OP, Verizon wouldn't get away with this. But the majority of the non-union scabettes will do anything to keep their job and make their boss happy .... including stabbing there peers in the back whenever they can.

How do you all think the company would react if everyone had the guts to stand up for themselves as the OP has done? While I agree there may have been a smarter way to go about it, my hat goes off to someone who actually has enough backbone to stand up to these criminals.

I would go to my personal physician with a stress related reaction to what was sprung on you at the last minute. You should then fill out the exception for medical related reason why you can't take an ewa. The doctor would then fill out the form and you could be excused.

Yea, dumb move. They CAN"T make you do something that is dangerous or that you are unfit to do. It was not in your job subscription when you were hired. If they sent you to some kind of pole climbing school you CAN refuse to climb. They can NOT force you to do something that puts you at risk of injury.

I don't know your situation, but my gut reaction is that may not have been your best move. Lots of people find medical reasons to avoid EWA. Or, working in a call center to avoid the shouting, weather, etc. while earning extra pay is also an option. Unless you just hate your job or boss, or have another gig lined up, you should have thought that through a bit more.
