Surplussed - be ready for drug tests

So one of the surplus groups, as of December 15, 2016, found out on February 18th, drug testing would begin the next day, Friday and must be completed by Monday.

May be deliberate or just another example of the chaos and mismanagement we experience regularly. Wonder how many more surprises we will have before we find out if we have a job or not?

I wonder if we will have more training before our last day! Ha!

Union can't do anything about it, but collecting your union dues, is like the insurance you will never use, ,,when you really needed ,,,you are on your own !!!

62 ET's were surplussed at the Charlotte NRC on Dec 15. All surplussed techs plus all "Potential Bumpees" are being required to take the physical test/drug test/and agree to credit, driving, and background checks as if they were new hires. This is an obvious plan to weed out as many ET's as possible and get them off payroll. All of this BEFORE we are informed if we are being offered a new position or not.

Wow - I am confident all my test results should be a pass, just surprised at the whole process while the union rep is standing by watching.

And just by the general idea, humans make errors, wondering what the recourse would be, should the result be a fail.

It is my understanding not everyone has taken the test, so it will be at least next week or longer before we have the final news.

You may want to reached out to your local or the district if you are Union. It is my understanding that drug test are not a requirement internally unless you off payroll

The drug testing and physical required includes ketone testing. Does anyone know how this information will be used? Will we hear the results of our tests and have the ability to request another test? Or will people just be eliminated due to these test results?

So sorry to hear. Bellsouth was an awesome company to work for. So many great people in the SE have lost their jobs over the years under AT&T. Such a shame. Best wishes to all involved.

Here's a thought. Perhaps they are doing the drug test in hopes that they catch a few folks and can fire them instead of having to pay severance.

Yes - this is surplus of craft workers/non-management for the 4th quarter 2015. There were 397 covering 8 of the 9 states in the Southeast region.

I suspect there will be more layoffs every quarter and the procedure would be similar.

I am curious as to how many actually bumped into jobs from surplus in 2015 and still have the same job.

Is this a surplus of legacy bellsouth union employees? Just assuming because mgmt employees don't get to bump in a surplus... what group?

Most are BellSouth legacy with many examples of 20 years service and zero drug tests.

Yes - makes sense that it would happen now as folks will be bumping into new positions, just was not mentioned in the HR meeting.

This means word on bumping will not come for at least another week. Ready to know if I have a job or not.

Drug tests are common practice in pre employment testing for AT&T. Surprised it hadn't happened sooner.
