Wow!!! Just saw Bloomberg talking about the state of Yahoo....Their CEO (Marissa Mayer) has about as much energy and enthusiasm as a slug. Her business strategy??? Get rid of employees and "increase shareholder value." Sound familiar? Like Verizon, employee moral is at an all time low, as they are just waiting to get their walking papers. Apparently Yahoo still has about a billion followers. I bet Lowell and his band of merry men can sink that ship completely in less than 18 months.

1rnb, that's why companies are always rich during annual report to shareholders time, but always piss poor at contract negotiation time. It's been the same story for years.

I've been hearing that for years. What they fail to mention is when a business disconnects 6 pots lines but orders a t-1 and uses it for the 6 lines the company only counts the disco lines . Many businesses use t-1 or TLS service for the dial tone. When they speak it's all spin, making numbers match their narrative.
My understanding is Altice is buying Cablevision for under $18 Billion. That's a purchase that might have been nice for us to pursue, wiping out competition in wide swaths of our territory. However, I assume the reason that we did not is because the regulators might have had monopoly issues with it.
Do you think Cablevision preaches landline is dead to their employees. Of course not, and that's their only income stream.
The "Landline is Dead" mantra is emanating from those at the other side of the negotiating table to make their counterparts on the union side of that table feel worthless and lose their resolve. It will not work.
Wireless is Dead, caught in stagnation. FiOS is a growing enterprise.

BECAUSE THE LANDLINE IS NOT DEAD, It needs to be fiber but even copper is now being used in the rest of the world with CRAN technology to provide gigabit data seeds....... verizon is just greedy.

Cell towers are fed by landing fiber, Verizon fios is a landline service too. Copper phone lines are being phased out, however there are a lot of business' with phone systems that must run on copper. Also when a major disaster hits and there's major power failure cells won't work after the backup generator runs out of fuel. Copper runs on battery power from a main office. Guess which ones more reliable when there is a disaster.

The funny thing is . Sometimes your in a job to work yourself out of a job. There used to be a cloning fraud dept in NY for fraud. That job no longer exists. Why? They felt with the issue at hand at the time and now phones can't be cloned. Why would a company keep a department that no longer is needed. Some of our jobs are working ourselves to the next thing. It's funny when you go on the company intranet and see the comments employees make, "great job Lowell" "proud to be Verizon" "we are the best". Then you hear more states complaining about our landlines service, where does better matter? We are starting to get a reputation similar to Comcast, I know wireless people don't see or hear it but it's happening.

Yahoo is forming an "independent committee" to look at "strategic alternatives." Translation.....Yahoo is going to shell out millions of dollars to a group of millionaire suits, so they can make a decision to chop the workforce and find a big sucker to buy them.
