Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Huge budget increase in 2016 for wireline HSI/DSL ( high speed internet). No more mgmt layoffs, for 2016.

Mandatory call today with manager. Team informed: After years of abuse and contempt for boring archaic DSL, vz has finally seen what is obvious, even to Stevie Wonder. DSL is making these fools some really serious $$$$$$. Tens of millions of $$$$$$ in budget increase for HSI/DSL in 2016, and, apparently, I say "apparently", no more layoffs of support staff in 2016 ( group cut 60% in less than 4 months). Service to be expanded and offices previously capped due to congestion and capacity exhaustion are to be reopened & expanded to allow for substantial increase in DSL capacity throughout 2016. Finally, FINALLY, the fools open their eyes.

xDSL is not actually antiquated. it is capable, with the correct equipment and decent plant, of providing <100mbps. vz just refuses to look at, speak of, or invest in it. And if we are now, then we are very late to that game.

I am not referring to old the older ADSL which when it first became available was only capable of 640k/90k speeds.

The architecture has changed significantly, it can be quite fast if, like most things it is integrated correctly with the existing plant.

However, you know what happens to most things we touch.......

@2gwu. ...care to elaborate on that 5g and fios install a bit further?

DSL was mentioned in the kickoff meeting. Seems that they found it after losing it so many years ago. The original DSL routers I installed at VZ are still spinning and generating revenue. They rarely fail or have any issues at all. Build out money will wait for G5, no truck roll needed for FIOS install at that time and that is where they are going.

And soon you can stay in touch when away from home. You just need to bring some dimes and quarters to activate the coin set inside the booth. We will be installing banks of them in public places like malls and airports.

So are they going to stop intentionally screwing with current DSL customers service in hopes of getting them to ditch the landline?

The thought explaining in the 2016 kickoff is to penetrate markets where cable companies will not go thus providing a steady cash flow of new customers with the DSL product. My two cents, its better positioning to attract a buyer.

So.......we're NOT going to invest in building out our far superior fios network but we ARE going to invest in outdated hsi? Sounds like another brilliant executive decision. Why don't we start offering dial up again? The millennials would love it.

Party lines are no doubt expanding as well, but what about coded trunks and ISDN services?

I also heard there is a big budget increase for POTS too. The extra lines are needed for the Verizon AOL customers.

I'm the o/p and I can understand your doubt nzr. I wouldn't trust these ba$tard rodents any further than I could throw them. I do not have the details as regard the exact offices, but can tell you, as a fact, not an opinion, that the lions share of congestion and capping of growth/capacity has previously occured

in the north east. No surprise there, right, densely populated area? Although, it's also true that there is some congestion and restrictions in parts of the states that are being sold to Frontier. It would not surprise me for one second if what we were told was simply more vz lies & bs. I truly believe these people would sell their mother into a whore-house if the company credo called for it.

Did this happen to be in a soon-to-be Frontier market?
