i know the unions side of the house has one but do we have voluntary package we could take to get out before its all doomed

I asked to be riffed not a single time i have ever been considered. What sucks i should have cashed it out in 2003 when the great rif offer was proposed.
2gxv, am I to interpret your post as inferring that you're under some erroneous belief that a lucrative buyout is only available to those over 50, or some other grouping, and others are not allowed to avail themselves of it? That's a plain silly proposition, and I've seen evidence to the contrary.

I've got a better idea. How about we stand together and take back the company that we built. Wire line and wireless together as a union, instead of being divided. Let's vote out the current executive board and right the ship that is ours. If there is to be a strike, then we will need the cooperation of all management that is being $hi# on, to step up and tell these executives that they will not be forced to go out and do a job that they are not safely and properly trained for. We all know what needs to be done, be competitive and give the customer what they ask for on wireless and build fios. Let's vote in new leadership who will listen to those who know the business the best........ALL OF US!!! Don't continue to drag your feet, if you are in wireless, demand to unionize starting NOW! Let's all stop standing around and watching these money hungry pigs destroy our company.
1ebl - not entirely true. If you are a protected class they may turn you down as you represent bonus money to your director and VP. Serious money.
Just let your immediate manager (wireline) know you want to leave at next RIF, they have to make the numbers and could care less. ...keep it private... DO NOT BroadCast / discuss it else someone in another department will rat you out if you get it and not them. HR does not like to hear about this because it can cause legal problems.
If you are not close to or over 50, then not chance.
If you are not straight, white male, then not a chance.

My understanding is, when a RIF's coming, you let it be known that you would not mind being the one on the chopping block. However, it doesn't guarantee they'll choose you.
If it comes through, you've not only enriched yourself somewhat in choosing this route, but also likely spared someone who's not quite yet ready to call it quits.
I would like to know as well for wireless. The person asking the question might be landline and they are asking about non-union. For me, I would like to know for wireless.
Any help with the question is greatly appreciated.
