Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Am I the only happy f/ Verizon person here?

I couldn't be more happy to be paid to leave this company. I really do not buy into the executive vision for the future of the company. Trying to get a bunch of communications people to challenge Facebook and google in the ad insertion real, is a total joke. Just go ahead and carve off Wireline and WBG (VES, f/ MCI, Consistent Loss of Revenue), use the profit to buy wireless spectrum. Then target millennials who don't have the money to pay your overly inflated market prices. Sounds brilliant to me!

I am just happy to be free of being a number, and looking forward to being a valued employee somewhere else!

As one who was run off a few years ago, I must say there is life after Verizon. After the initial WTF moments, rational thinking took over and things worked out. Do not let them take your soul. Remember friends made over the years. Best of luck to all

so true on #h1b

Verizon's only "core" is to make the top execs wealthy .... and to give jobs to offshore and H1B morons. But the latter is just to help achieve making the execs wealthy. Cause we all know how piss-poor the offshore and H1B resources are.

VBHGE - Definitely not. What a pleasure to be a walk away survivor of that disfunctional house of political correctness, management-by-best-seller gymboree. What a sick place. The money was good, the bennies not as good as they used to be and the work was getting stale. Their political correctness so painted themselves into a corner and they are so disconnected from their market that it became one big Dilbert cartoon.

I am very happy to be out of there. It is strange not having to always be on the grid and have that ID card and phone close by, but I am getting used to it. I like it a lot. Not being there. I like not being surrounded by all of the lies and the BS. I also like not having to be subjected to that childish marketing crap all around. P.U.! That stuff really stinks.

So yes! It is good to be free from what that place has become. And that enjoyment grows on me everyday. I'm smiling now.

I feel so bad for the many people who were so loyal to VZW for years...relocating when asked...working long hours...missing family events...dealing with the politics and the stress. Not all corporate cultures are like that - look for strong companies that value you. It will all work out in the end.

I hear from employees who are left and they are miserable. Their workload has doubled...those in management have so many direct reports they feel ineffective. The morale is low and there's no trust. It's so toxic, so many wish they would have gotten a package. They want to leave but can't afford to leave without a package. I'm sure the next employee opinion survey will be a doozy.

You can now chart your own course. Just keep networking - hopefully you will find a better opportunity. Remember mind over matter, so stay positive and learn the lesson. Never give your life or identity to one company. It's a place of work - nothing is promised. It's not the be all, but a journey. You're paid for a service and when the service is no longer needed, you may be let go. It's not a marriage - it's never till death do us part. It's a relationship premised on an exchange of services. Get that - move on and never ever expect any company to be your everything. While looking for another job, also look for ways to use the bonus, vacation, severance to start other streams of passive income.

For me, it's a good thing. I get to pivot to find more happiness. I use to dread going to work. I'm relieved that I never have to deal with that toxic enviornment ever again. Best of luck to everyone!!

Think your happy is more like painful toothache that finally gets resolved. You feel relieved to be free from the pain, which our minds interpret as happiness. The miserable stress this greedy uncaring company has inflicted onto so many former people is finally alieviated producing a feeling of relief and that relief, I believe, mimics happiness. Notice that few, if any, have that happy feeling when they are still working, since their lives are often still being tortured. Many of us who have lost our jobs have this feeling of "happy." Just my two cents.

Trying to get a bunch of phone company people to challenge Facebook and google in the ad insertion arena, is a total joke. Why deviate from your core competency?
