The offices are so toxic and the stress and tension is at an all time high morale at an all time low. Doesn't anyone care?

I have 17 years and no longer care about anything regarding my job. The company has shown no respect to its workers, both union and non-union. At this point I am diligently job searching. Everyone I know in every department feels as though they have no value. The company can suck it.
I believe the OP meant doesn't "Verizon" care? Doesn't Leadership care...doesnt "anyone" meaning higher ups care.
In journalism and the media it's an absolute Cardinal sin for a reporter or outside news anchor to ask a survivor how he/she feels after a life shattering event. "So your families all dead, how do you feel?" To ask such a question shows an absolute lack of any human compassion and is condemned, which also includes the media themselves, and rightfully so.
I'm hoping you are really genuinely trying to understand what has happened to morale, when you ask, "doesn't anyone care?" But in reality, your question, at least to me, is lacking any human compassion or consideration. Thousands of people's lives have been disposed of simply to mitigate for vz buying the vodaphone share of Verizon wireless, driving the company into massive debt.
None of which makes any business sense whatsoever since the glory days of wireless are over. Cell phones and cell phone plans are under intense competitive pressure by the big 4, (att, vz, sprint and T-Mobile) with each one trying to stay financially viable. And this is not my opinion, McAdam, in giving guidance to Wall Street, stated that growth/profits for 2016 will, at best, be flat in 2016. There is NO business justification for buying more wireless "stuff" when the North American market has already reached saturation and maturity.
The cost of this infantile, egotistical purchase, $131,000,000,000. The cost, in human terms, I wouldn't even try to estimate, but surely you O/P can understand why morale has collapsed? It's entirely due to the destruction of a viable company, with most of the hurt Inflicted on those least able to defend themselve, and there is more to come, so insanely massive is the debt.
It has sucked since leadership took the mentality that "your best today is not good enough tomorrow". You are only worth to this company what you can produce for them tomorrow. I am done sacrificing my personal time and efforts for this BS. Going to do as little work as possible and collect a paycheck until I am replaced with someone half my age at half my salary. They will have half the knowledge so VZ will get what they pay for!
@FllSpgJ-dhk The report was done by PWC - saying the kids don't have concept of money management - it is also the same company that advised Verizon of the re-org and layoffs
Verizon , will become without any doubt the dumping ground of the unemployable, many capable professionals, have located employment somewhere else, is just matter of time, knowledge is power!
VZW WAS a great place to work... for many years and through many mergers, acquisitions, and transitions. The downward spiral didn't start overnight. We probably didn't see it right away. But it hasn't been a fun place to work for quite a while. I am sorry for those who are left. I believe at a minimum it will be a tough couple of years before this company decides who they are and actually starts to move the ship in that direction. There will be a lot of fallout between now and then. Good luck.

I have been with VZ for about 20 years as a senior manager. The sad part is now every one is acting busy. The work that does not make sense. The people and their supervisors are all playing a ritual. Everyone knows that they are digging a black hole for new revenue. The most funny thing was when an IT CIO RV said that some of the projects were in Red because she could not complete hiring enough staff in time. Just keep acting as if everything is normal. Get your package when your time comes. Be contended. This management is trying to put rocket fuel into a steam based locomotive. That does not make it a rocket.

I think the OP's point is things are bad NOW. They were not bad before. Verizon has deteriorated into just another greedy corporation that does not care.

No one cares. Just ask the 8000 that were let go before Christmas if anyone cared. VZ went from a great place to work to total crap....a real life version of office space overnight.
