I was told yesterday that VZ managers and directors were not allowed to sponsor a company owned by a laid off VZW employee for at least a year after separation. I'm in the process of starting a services company and since VZW is still spending capital dollars on projects, they are a good source of potential business for my company. If you're not familiar with the process, you have to "sponsored" by a ED to get your company added to the "approved vendor list". It doesn't mean you'll get any business, but at least you can bid on work. I know you can work for an existing vendor and work on VZW projects, but can you be the owner?

There is a period of time during which VZ will not be able to do business with you. I can't remember the length of the period, but check the VZ Code of Conduct.
If you are starting a biz you do not, repeat do not, want Vz as a customer. Nothing but heartache, slow pay and delay. An org has to be established with the necessary infrastructure to actually profit. Otherwise I think you will be out of biz before you even start. Best of luck.

VZ has a committed policy of helping small business minorities to do business with us. Are you a gay, lesbian, one eyed liberal or underwater basket weaving racial minority or female of any type? Pony tail bouncing, wholesome Girly, Girl Scout thru to butch, with tattoos (neck/knuckle cracking ability optional) especially welcome? Caucasoids with external plumbing need not apply.
