Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Does someone know if you are eligible to be in the Verizon retiree status after your severance period is up

can you file for Unemployment ? Or does someone know what number to call to find out, yesterday I was given this number 800 932-7949 but was put on hold for 15 minutes and hung up, and based on the question and options the IVR was asking not sure if that was the right place to call anyway.

You are correct. .you can take the severance package, collect unemployment and file your retirement. Health benefits are approx $525 for single and about $10K for 2. I understand the phone discount is only 25% as of 3,1,15 for retirees. If you had 50%,you may no longer receive it. You must have 15 years of service, and age + yrs of service = 73 if laid off. .but might still be 75. Good luck!

For me, gdl, it was almost 11,000 just for healthcare. Life and dental were extra. I'm 57, pactel > airtouch > Verizon > unemployment

OK, thanks. I was told like $10,000 but they said they don't know exactly until 90 days before severance ends but I cannot understand how it can be that high but I was told there will be options and if you don't want life insurance you don't have to get that so we will see what the numbers are unless someone else has actually seen them at this point.

I was told one has nothing to do with the other. Retiree status only means two things, health care which for me is a joke at $11,000 a year, and my phone discount.
