Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

It's bad here

I'm in one of the centers that is being closed. It's very very very depressing. I don't want to say where we are. But AT&T just cut the legs out from under some really good people We are all in shock.

Blind side is the AT&T way. They are only seeking cheap labor. Entire groups are being let go and work is being outsourced. Going to cheap labor states and overseas.

Trust me, a lot of really good hard working folks in a lot of att centers are being Laidoff due to surplus and ofc closures ,its been happening for a while and will continue, I would advise to take advantage of all incentives to get yourself prepare for another career/job in another company. The so called American dream no longer exist, 30+ career in one company no longer exist.wages are being reduced, benefits are being dismissed and the younger workforce will be screwed! Jobs are moving to slave labor states or sending overseas, there is no longer any Loyalty or value to employees.

It's weird to see people saying T wants to "bust the union" - i'm in a BellSouth legacy state who's director said (under BellSouth) the union would come in "over his dead body." About a year after the SBC takeover, he was told the union WAS coming in by brass & he never had an ill word to say about it again.

My impression has been that T loves the union - the contracts give them a fixed labor cost for the duration of each contract, and the union itself functions as an outsourced HR department for the company - the contract spells out what you have to do & if you don't do it, adios. I knew a manager in one of the call centers a few years ago who said she loved it for this reason.

Maybe - maybe - it's been great for the wireline folks, but for the call centers and retail people in my state, it's a complete joke.

Why would anyone volunteer during a surplus condition? Isn't that just retirement and you would not get severance pay. Only incentive is to be "nice" and save someone's job.

Just to clarify, standard 60 day letters go out on January 21, off payroll on March 21. The company is taking a voluntary retirement survey, those people that volunteer will be off payroll Feb 11.

AT&T doesn't care and the CWA isn't a very strong union. AT&T really took advantage of reclassifying everyone as "management" and disqualifying most of its work force from union eligibility. So, there's really no one left fighting for the majority of workers and they're getting screwed over by a large company that wants to get rid of as many employees as possible.

AT&T doesn't care if you put in years or whatever. They want contractors to maintain the network. The CWA is going away. Dallas will bust the union. They want managers who can be jerked around and fired at a moments notice. It is a toxic hostile environment. And they don't care.

ATT perspective would be...who cares about good people, in their mind is all about cheap labor,.. IT IS TIME to get used to this idea, specially American Citizens, it is happening all around us.
