Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

who decides who gets laid off? Do not wish this on anyone but hope I get the option

I do see that some people say there will be more layoffs and in sales (which I hope so, I am one of the older employed sales person) and DO NOT WISH ANYONE GET LAID OFF IF THEY DO NOT WANT TO but does anyone know who makes that decision (I know higher paid employees and older ones) but who would make the final decision, Director or AD. I would not have a prayer with either one in my region but because they are so heartless I worry it won't be me just to be meaner than they have been the last 2 to 3 years. They would not lay me off just because they know I want to be. Does anyone truly know who would make that decision?

That's really telling of someone hates their situation so much that they are praying to get laid off. Can't say I blame you.

I see a lot of rumor posted here. My boss did not know until frive minutes before I knew. There is some manner of algorithm being used to avoide lawsuits, because it definitely is skewed to take out retirement age, white guys of euro extraction. This is all about money and avoiding lawsuits.

Suffice it to say, that if you are an older employee with many years with the company and you are not actively engaged in a project of area that brings dollars in, then you might want to take a look at your resume.

@vvp...You nailed it. If you are not a good soldier (aka don't talk about your manager to co-workers, peers , agree with everything manager says, including stupid things, you will make the cut and survive a little longer) however if you have EVER disagreed with your manager in private or public or spoken up / asked a question in a VP's TownHall meeting, You can kiss your job goodbye with the next RIF in order for the Director to make the RIF numbers. Try not to sweat it, there is a list with the Director and AD's name on it too, created by the VP, they too shall be RIF'd very soon, they make too much money for the job they do. It can be done cheaper in INDIA

If this is in regards to store employees - simple. The store that closes has everyone cut in that location.

Two coworkers who used to be managers say that the director tells them to get rid of "x" number of people and the manager gets the unpleasant task of having to decide. I doubt this is the case when entire departments are wiped out, but is probably true for the onside two ske per team. I guess that is how upper management rationalize being able to sleep at night.
