Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Signing a piece of paper never felt so good

Signing off on the severance agreement never felt so good. I enjoyed my time at VZ but now its time to move on. I have always had a plan B in place and plan on utilizing it. The company doesn't care how long you have been with the company and doesn't care how loyal you are. They will only look at your performance from the past year. So if you have had some personal or health issues that hindered your work temporarily but have worked your butt off the past 10 years they will not look at all the hard work, they will look at your performance the past 6 to 12 months. This experience has been a true life lesson. No friends in this thing they call Corporate America, dog eat dog. Good luck to all that are left behind and now have double or triple the amount of work to do.

Millenials are the future. Invest now. Transform now. Not one webcast goes by without the mention of the Millenial. They love it. They can't replace themselves with Millenials obviously, so the next best thing is hitting up the employees. Not a fan of it, but business is business and transformation is ongoing, so expect more change to happen soon.

To be honest, Millennials have let everything slip away to serve their bosses (i.e., Masters).

They work far past 40 hours, without accruing any more pay. They don't even know what OT is.

They stay glued to their phone, 24/7, at their bosses beck and call, for zero standby pay.

They have given up their vacations, in lieu of staycations, or simply surrendered their down time completely (refusing to take vacation days) out of fear of being replaced.

These dupes are more impressed by having their hair tousled by some father figure and hearing an "atta boy" than they are by concrete things such as OT pay and vacation weeks.

They appear to harbor some distorted 'Daddy Love Me' craving, some longing for worthless attention meant to fill some void that's been unfulfilled their entire lives.

Just give these dopey Millennial types a title with "senior" or "distinguished" in it, pat them on their head, send them on their way, and they're happy as pigs in sh*t.

All these dopey, kid-faced, one-year-out-of-college workers with "senior" in their title. What a joke - "senior of what, you're 22?"

They refuse to ask to be treated decently.

They've been duped into thinking it's a good thing to have no loyalty in either direction in the employee/employer relationship.

They think they've won, in an environment where there's no peace of mind, where they start over at new jobs every three years, and where their futures are dim because, in this brave new world they've created, they've set themselves up to be chewed up, spit out, and washed up once they hit their fifties.

However, in their youthful ignorance, they're too short-sighted to see what they've been a party in creating.

Also, they intern for peanuts, and do so feeling privileged for the opportunity to be used up, pissed on, and abused.

They're willing slaves because, if they don't do it, there's plenty of Millennials lined up behind them to take their place, willing to do anything, to move back out of mom and dad's house.

These kids don't have enough spine to demand something better. They're poor, but they've labeled it Hipster, because it doesn't sound so bad.

There was 'The Greatest Generation', and now there's this, 'The Stupidest, Most Gullible, Most Ass-Kissing Generation". Good luck with that.

WCF you can kiss all the backsides you want, but it will not help you in a sinking ship amd it is sinking. Proof? What has been sold. Who they have promoted. Where they are spending their money. Kissing butt or being a minority or number of protected classes is definitely the way to get ahead there, but sooner or later the market catches up. Right now the market looks to be gaining.

-wur is right. Verizon did nothing wrong. In fact, they may be doing everything right. Being the front runners of what's left with this industry. I'm sure Verizon would love to keep its skilled and expensive employees, but they just cant. Transforming the business is critical to its survival. Verizon is still the best, with or without us, and they know it.

@FgizmGR-wur you are an idiot of huge proportion. you are the type of person VZ now wants working for them. Talentless, selfish and moronic idiots such as yourself. Prays the lord I am gone and will not have to deal with idiots like @FgizmGR-wur. Good luck, the next round is coming soon and you just may be next.

Don't worry @FgizmGR-wur your day will come. I doubt you are winning at anything, after all you are on this board posting as well. Someday you will be jobless with a family to support, lets see who is passive aggressive at that point and BTW passive-aggressive is hardly the term that should be used.

time to brainwash the new generation coming up at VZ, the millennials. One day these millennials will be in our shoes. they will look back and say, hey, this is exactly what happened to the older dude that sat next me, now I'm getting the ax just like him. Seriously folks, good luck to all that remain, VZ glory days have come and gone, nothing can save this sinking ship not even Go90. Go90 what a terrible idea the worst idea I have seen VZ jump into. good luck with that.

Once again your ignorance prevails. How can you say anything about the pay and AGE of these workers. One thing that I can guarantee you is that hopefully one day you will be old and your body or mind may break down. You are a disgrace with no feelings. Good luck. Your day is right around the corner.

They need to get their hands on the millenials now and allow them to learn and grow into the company as it sheds old, high-paid, jaded dead weight with health issues and are gone 3 months of the year on paid vacation. It doesn't hurt if they are a minority-millenial either so they can remain in the good graces of all demographics and to a Pease the eeoc. Lowell, Diego Scott, Schamoo are all about business and they will succeed as cheap as possible. They are old right-side money that sees a gold mine in the milennials and to look hip. Verizon has the best network and tons of clout and america still sees them as the powerhouse. No one cares about any of these layoffs nor is it newsworthy at even the local levels. Shamu has a good way with people, how could he possibly rub the shareholders the wrong way? Not possible. 60 Day WARN prevented any legal issues. Nice severance. People go away quietly other than the passive agressive jobless employees on here. Verizon wins.

You are right. That really felt good in a sick kind of way. But don't feel misjudged. This was truly about liquidity and short term thinking.

Chances are that you got paid a good buck. In your place for a little less than they were paying you will be some millennial mopes, thinking that they are being 'efficient' with the allocation of labor dollars. Not priced in that equation is institutional knowledge, experience and wisdom. Have no doubt that those costs will be levied and paid.

There is nothing free in this world, and an HR rank & yank alogrithm misestimated your value. They say - you know 'The They' - well they say, "you get what you pay for." Exactly so. So it is time to get paid for your value by someone that values you.

Good luck!
