You do indeed have a keeper wife. She's also brilliant in her advice. I myself joined GTE Illinois oh so long ago. I immediately took advantage of their offer to attend graduate school at ISU. It was a no brainer - the company paying for my MBA. I didn't think twice about it. That opportunity opened so many doors and future advances that paid off in spades. VZ rif'd me in 02. I had no problem moving onto Valor Telecom and later British Telecom. Ironically I ended up back at VZ for the past 2 years. I'm alway taking advantage of certifications and webinars and training whenever possible. I know that finance transformatino will take my job away again someday, but I don't care. I feel in control of my own destiny, rather than at the liberty of the company's decisions. You're a dope and short sighted if you feel VZ, or any company for that matter, has your best interest in mind. When my day comes, and I know it will, I just look at it as another chapter to explore new opportunities, learn new skils, and meet great people that I would never had the chance to meet. I learned a long time ago not to let someone else control my future, I needed to do that. I sleep well at night knowing tomorrow may be my last day at VZ, but if not, I try to learn something new that I can take with me to my next great life experience. I wish you all well my friends. May our paths cross someday down the road.

Truthfully I haven't cared for several years. I tried numerous times to find another job with vz due to an absolute tyrant of a manager, but never got past interviewing. Year after year folks around me were riff'd, bitter, they would vehemently complain they had been loyal and hard working and look what it had got them? Hard to describe just how bitter many of my colleagues felt. Year after year, I too, would complain to my wife that I was doing a good job and each time she would remind me that my other colleagues had also done a good job, but they had still been let go. Thanks entirely to my wife, I made a conscious decision to stop feeling that " the company owed me" and to use vz to help myself. I went to class after class, using VZs TAP assistance to improve my knowledge and obtained several valuable vendor certifications. On 10/29/2015 several of us, including the tyrant manager, were notified our services would no longer be required after 12/31/2015. I start my new network job early in January, which I got due to experience gained at vz and vendor certifications. I have thanked my lucky stars over and over again for a wife, who never gave me an ounce of sympathy, just solid gold advice. A keeper? I think so.
