Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

This is it... and here's to new beginnings!

This morning, after nearly 20 years with this company, I turn in my badge and walk the other way. I have many good memories and am proud of my accomplishments. Could I have imagined it would end this way? Absolutely not. Years of great performance reviews, several relocations, increasing responsibilities... all came to a screeching halt. Fear not, I will bring my hard earned skills, credentials and experience with me to my next challenge. G-Bye VZ. Good luck not becoming the next Polaroid.

I never thought I would say this, but AT&T seems to have the right plan. Verizon's attempt to compete with Facebook and Google in the digital ad insertion space is laughable. Verizon was a communications company, not a tech company, and as much as they want to change themselves, it won't happen.

It have to agree the last year or so has been a very toxic climate to work in. The logo changes and light board marketing images look really childish. Too use a union loved term, the marketing and advertising looks 'retrogressive'. Where once VZ ads always became part of the American culture and lexicon, now it is so vanilla, that you can't even see it. One thing is for certain, "I can't hear you know."

Verizon has become invisible to the wider market as it chases this mythical millennial market, which will easily trade brand loyalty for cost; that is, those millennials that even have any money to spend. To bolster this market insanity, and in support of AOL tradition VZ over pays for a retrogressive dial up Internet access company, left-wing e-zine, and a bunch of mareting technology companies. Shades of Time Warner? The company has also all but abandoned, its state of the art FiOS in favor of chasing Wireless Fairies and cloud computing rainbows.

The kick is that all the younger set seemed to be interested in day to day, was how to get out of there. The c-suite is sadly ingnorant to the knowledge that their youthful saviors don't really like being there. These pillars of youthful ambition look at Verizon as nothing more than a vehicle to get a job at a competitor, a vendor or out of the industry completely. The last straw for many of them was ''the cutting of the cubes" and white-noise. Now the air is so foul with PC and novelty, that veracity, good service, good decisions good values, and good profits have given away to the staleness of just another "also ran".

This is definitely the time to go. I wish sincere luck to those that can hold on Dilbertland.

Best of luck! There's life after VZW. A career is a journey, so take your experience and talent elsewhere. There are so many unhappy employees at VZW now. They got a wake-up call with these layoffs. So many have said they wished they got a package because they don't won't be in such a toxic place. Their smiles are fake and they go along because they have families to feed. It's a different place and I'm glad I'm out of there. 2016 will be better!

Me too - 40 years with VZ - walked away today toward my bright future. I will miss my VZ friends left behind for now.

Good Luck @Fd6xyql & Fd6xyql-spk

Fd6xyql - same story here. Same comments. Love the Polaroid example, but I think of it as the 'New Coke' old-story. Even the logo change will likely be undone before long. Good luck to you! There loss is our gain.
