Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Adios Charlotte NRC

On Dec 15, The NRC Access Group was hit with 10 layoffs. The Switch Group, which monitors over 3,000 switches(5e/EWSD/1A) had 49 of 62 ET's surplussed. This leaves 13 techs to monitor all the switches! The U-Verse Group was completely eliminated, 15 techs out the door. There are 22 ET's left in the access group which provides Tier 1.5 support for ADSL equipment(Allcatel/Tellabs/Catena/PC Data), plus supporting fiber cuts and oc3 to oc48 muxes(DDM2000/FLM600/FT2000) The surplussed techs in the Switch Group will bump the Access techs, so there will be very few experienced techs left. Also, in November, extensive upgrades started being made to the NRC. It is obvious the company is selling the NRC. Randy thinks this is 2020, not 2016

We just were told of a cut in out call center. No info yet. We were working with a call center in another country but they were supposed to be additional support not replacements. Apparently that was all bull

I was offered a move to another region and decided to not take it. The two who did lasted 3 months and again were told they were next. I was fortunate to find a job in wireline but now they are in line to be downsized also. We were told it will be all wireless and cloud services and 90% supported y contractors or if in a call center it ill be from India.

Not good.

You will find the Union backing down on layoffs. Many people have been hit and offered jobs within their region only to find they must move few states away. Once there, the guarantees are no better. 5 of the ET's in my state moved only to be once again told they were on the hit list. Yes they were offered jobs in another state but the cost to keep moving makes it worthless. Leadership may be doing this to dump more people and still claim they are following the rules. So out of 72 only 12 remain and all are rovers with OT limits. The other thing seen is the use of contractors to "fix" things as well as install. They have full access and seem to be growing.

I wont tell which state but I'm in but the SE region.

My family is directly affected by this! Wondering what your best guess is regarding the last ET job to be surplussed? So if you hang on as an ET and bump into a different ET job, how long will it be before you get surplussed again?
