Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

ATT Announces Mobility direction

ATT has told it's executives the direction for expansion will be in Mobility but not in the domestic US market. The South Americas and Europe will be concentration and expense. The US Cell system has not seen any expansion except for minor updates. The move to using contractors is increasing and the need to employees will go down significantly. Concentration of requirement for additional skills will leave most in the layoff line. OCATS executives are reorganizing to restructure and prepare to move their field support groups to the wireline side when the wireline business is sold to Frontier or some other company. The concentration will be to save the remote support people.

Additional performance rating will be placed on ranking to allow downsizing.

Not good.

OCATS is next to be hit but so far who is being kept quiet. latest thought is the field support groups under 2 directors will be moved to wireline in states being considered for sale to Frontier.

We had a call last week and were told by our director that he/she did not "think" anyone was in jeopardy of being cut although if any are cut they would do everything possible to find jobs for the ones cut.

We all drank Kool-Aid as suggested and went back to work. Everyone is confident we will be here for another 30 years.

ATS tier 3 support or OCAT as it is now called will be hit hard very soon. Rumor is late 2nd or 3rd qtr.

The excuse will poor performance on mid year review or not keeping up with required training.

The cuts have started quietly and unless people are in a group with others no one will know.

Many complete groups are being targeted. the excuse is they did not fall into the top 50% of the group.

also they did not keep up with the training requirements. Randalls brother is an installer. Wonder if he will be laid off.

I know a good portion of tier 2 NOC type personnel are already off shore. I've started to see ATS openings in Brno and Bangalore. I imagine they will just surplus domestic support and move it overseas.

How will this affect all the Tier 2 NOCs that use ATS for tier3 support?

None are listed and even if they have them it will be near impossible to get one if they want to keep numbers low.

Maybe it's time to move to Mobility if they have jobs.

OCATS = Operational Certification & Advanced Technical Support. We do Production Support Labs testing for MOPs and Tier 3 support on most IP applications in the company.

What is OCATS. I'm in mobility and we do remote support. We do have a lot of contractors now.

The cost for US employees vs. overseas is huge and remote support can be done from anywhere.

That may be why the movement.

The groups we were told about do remote and field support and system certifications. Supposed to be consolidated to one or two groups. Not sure who the directors are. Maybe someone else can answer.

I'm in OCATS, and I thought everyone in OCATS was remote support? What groups in OCATS do field support?
