Hi all, question - I was told that I need to answer HR by the end of March if I am going to relocate to New Jersey to keep my position. If I don't relocate, then at the end of march the 100 day clock begins and then adieu. If I were to obtain a position at a company outside of Vz say in May, do I forfeit severance?

It's not like vz sold BR with a lease back and is attempting to build something big in TX.
Personally I wouldn't do the move, unless you're young without family. I have seen a few occasions where personnel moved to avoid layoff, and were subsequently laid off a year later after the move. I would hate to uproot my family from a familiar location with a support system to end up somewhere entirely new without a job or solid network to obtain a new job.

No, you don't lose severance pay if another company hires you. Once your severance period begins, it's your life. You just can't be employed by VZ for 6 months, or you pay back a part of your severance.
I wouldn't relocate to NJ with even the best relo package available. Hell, I wouldn't even relocate to NJ if the company offered to buy me a house and triple my salary.
If you get a job offer, see if they can wait till after the rif period so you get your severance and the new job.
so does that mean they are laying off in March?

I am surprised Folsom is one of those destinations. That place is a ghost town after all the layoffs. I would be surprised if it stays around much longer.
Thanks for the replies - I am non-union, management. Austin, Texas, is my location. Even though many folks are dispersed throughout the country, they are forcing us (many of us in the same boat from various parts of the country) to three final locations. Alpharetta, Basking Ridge and Folsom.
There is information on this on the severance documentation. Once you give them your answer you can then submit as part of your severance that you want to be severved immediately not at the end of the severance period. They will do this but you have to push them. I have heard it working for some but not others. Good luck and godspeed.
Sorry to hear they are still pulling that crap...it happened to me at the end of last year..once your severance paperwork is faxed in you will be good to go so don't make a move until you get that in. Make sure your new employer understands that too.
I don't know about severance, but I'd like to know where you are, and what the 3 choices are. This is one of the things that the union is fighting against.
