I was laid off 12.31.2015. Has anyone gotten any unemployment benefits yet. VEC tells me they are waiting to hear from VZ in how to apply the severance and vacation pay. Thanks

Hard to reach VEC I am in the same position but we should be able to receive. Severance should not effect .
When I was laid off, VA state did not approve start of unemployment benefits until after the "weeks" equivalent of the severance expired. But, times and circumstances change. You should apply for the benefits online as soon as possible, and they will review your specific situation and advise you of your entitlements. Don't be surprised though with an answer of "wait." If it is approved, great for you!

I filed in Jersey and already received three direct deposits fro the state.
Did you apply for unemployment? You have to disclose the severance but it is lump sum and likely will not affect your unemployment eligibility. At least it did not for NJ. Just follow the procedure for your state and don't wait for VZ to tell you anything.
