6tny, I've spotted an 800lb gorilla in this room, your ego. In terms of swelled heads, you've got nothing on Joseph Merrick.
And I have no concerns about the future. Whether or not I stay at Verizon, I had a decent career before Verizon and will afterwards if I choose to. I started A few businesses in my pre Verizon days that provide me with several times more income than VZ does ever hear. You might say I'm independently wealthy. That was because I took the initiative, took risks, and was rewarded for it.
Unlike you, I call 'em like I see 'em. I also have a breadth of resources and experience that allows me to pick and choose if I even feel like working after VZ.
What a troll @F9I74JM. Anyone with over ten years at VZ also has seen another sign of how management and ideation is supposed to work, what works, what doesnt. The less than ten think they know the business, but really don't. They, like you, are the most dangerous people to themselves, because "they do not know, what they do not even not know."
By the time it is you time to go - and it is coming, the reputation of Verizon will no longer be in the proud tradition of it once was, or what its predecessors once were. Just remember this when your time comes.
So VZWs best years were under the leadership of Ivan, a wireline guy. Lowell and his lieutenants are VZW. This bitching about VZ is misplaced.
VZW is now experiencing market saturation. It's a lot harder to grow by taking share than floating on a rising tide.
It sucks to be layed off but the salad days are over. The company will need to move into new growth areas like Digital Advertising to keep the momentum.
What is this karma crap? Coming full circle etc. Nope, a lot of really evil people (evil way beyond Verizon's managemnet) live long happy lives, lots of good people have horrible things happen to them. Talking about karma is just their way of getting you to put up with it, "knowing" that bad deeds will be punished. Like Santa's naughty list, and just as true.
It is up to you to be prepared for the REAL WORLD.

McA$$ was a clown even back then, it was his idea that the iPhone was a worth going after which was the only real decision he made. For all of you in wireline, wireless knows full well that without your solid backhaul we would be lost. The common issues we all have is the evil empire at the top. But losing the protection from the evil empire of Vodafone is the worst thing that has happened to VZW.

I have learned a great deal about the real world. I have learned that the same people that smile in your face are the same people that will stab you in the back just to make thr superiors happy. I have learned that in corporate America insecure narrow minded and weak minded employees will do anything to get into the ol boys club and this includes setting you up for the big fall. I have also learned that karma is a Bch and eventually it all comes full circle. You may be next people just a matter of time. I have also learned that you are only as good as your last few months with this company. They have failed to look back to see what employees have done over the past 10 years, instead they look at your last few months of service with the company and determine that it's time for you to go. Karma is a Bch and eventually it all comes full circle.
VZW prepared me for the real world by teaching me not to give 100%, take as much time off as I could, and build in extra days when I traveled for the company, and always look out for number one.
True they only care about this quarter and feeding the Wall Street Beast. They steal from their own customers!!! Enough said.

and I don't know of any wireless system that's currently operating without a landline foundation. So, go ahead, do away with landline, and see if your cell phone still operates. You display a shocking level of ignorance when you put your thoughts into the written word.

Maybe the OP is basing it on their skill sets? Just because you fall short doesn't mean the rest of us have. Most Wireline people are high demand due to their ability to know how to get things done. Many even own their own businesses. No one told you to sit like a lump on a log.

You haven't done the right things
I disagree. My last year or two in VzB taught me lessons and skills that quickly translated to a manufacturing firm. The way that VZB wanted to value all new products and ensure quick ROI translates to all businesses. In fact, I would say the ROI focus of the last few year in VZ is one of the most transferable skills in all of business. I got a raise in my new position bc I wasnt scared to negotiate from my skills learned in dealing with all the red tape of VZ.
