If you are looking at VZ from the outside, all is glittery, shiny, attractive. However, after you spend a year here you figure out that you are just a number, a small cog in a large money making machine that serves one purpose: to line pockets of the executives. So, get ready to work weekends, nights, long hours. The level of bureaucracy is mind boggling, layers upon layers of management, leads, supervisors, reviewers, approvers. They are never held accountable for their actions but will throw you under the bus at the first opportunity. They will always blame technicians and first level managers, for whatever happens.

This really sounds familiar. Doing the work of 2 people now because they laid off others in our department. A lot of VZW workers are not happy. Longer work hours well over 8 hour days with no overtime now. Welcome to the new Verizon. Managers and Leaders that aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.
I remember three years ago when the Financial Transformation started on the wireless side with Fran Shamo. I was talking to a coworker from another department and she said to me with all sincerity, "I don't see Verizon being around in 10 years. Wise leaders know that the employees are the key assets to a companies financial success." At the time, Verizon not existing seemed outlandish to me. Today I am a believer of her forecast and am truly saddened to see how Lowell, Fran, and Stratton are destroying a company I once loved coming to work for. In 2016, I will be grateful to be able to walk away from this toxic work environment and I feel sorry for my friends who remain behind.
The workforce that remains here is so very pissed off right now. Wireless, wireline, management, associates, all mad. To combat this more surveillance of the workers here will be implemented and the costs hidden again. I was forced to leave but I will enjoy watching the VZ empire fall. The leaders here are not real leaders, they are lieing, candy ass, excuses for the male human model. Money and greed are all they know.
I was RIF'ed and I'm not mad - I spent the last 3 years being mandated to work nights and weekends and be on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week and NOT be compensated with Overtime pay....It's a blessing! It was so much fun working for GTE for all the years I did....raised my kids, put them through college, bought houses, vehicles, camps.....and saved enough to be able to retire........it turned into a living HELL the last 2 years working for Verizon......taking my severance, my vacation time, my pension and moving on with my life HAPPILY!
Oppressive suffering is putting it mildly how most people feel working for this Darth Vader evil empire of a company. You literately hate going to work. People think working for Verizon is a charmed life, and your lucky. It's any thing but. It's a sole stealing company that's out to destroy. IT STEALS FROM IT'S OWN CUSTOMERS FOR GOD SAKES HOW DO YOU THINK IT TREATS IT EMPLOYEES?

Amen. Well put. Lets remember that Gary Adams of Dilbert fame is also a Telecom survivor. People thought he made all of that wild stuff in his cartoons up. People who work for a phone company know better.
As a November Rif'd employee with 25 years in service I can confirm that VZ is just one big s**t storm. I am blessed to have had this job for so many years and lots of good memories but I am almost relieved to be outta there! I think the work enviironment will continue to deteriorate....

That is the one thing that I don't think management understands, RIF employees are not the only employees mad at VZ. I might still be getting a paycheck from VZ after the first of the year, but I am out of here right after a trip I planned months ago.
The fat cats at the top have no idea how the real world works. This is just a game for them.
I was RIF'd ealier this year. Just now I was contacted by an outside recruiter about a position. I asked him where and he said Verizon, I said 'no thanks.' I would rather not get back into the rolling RIF's and turf wars. Crazy how just after that I saw this post. I just remember how aimless we were for so many years. That comes from the top and creates a toxic culture of protectionism.
