Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Well, I just closed my travel card Am Ex with Net Services, and deleted all my personal information off my concession phone. I'm kind of sad

today. I started with wireless 25 years ago. It's the only job I've had since I first moved to California. I worked in IT for most of it, but moved over to CS when they all went to VDSI about seven years ago. During my time here I've worked for some insane managers, and some good ones. People talk about missing their coworkers, I'm going to miss the paycheck and the vacation time (and all the hunting and fishing I did on the company dime). I had some coworkers that worked 10 or 12 hours a day, six days a week. They were fools. Guess what, they're in the same boat as me, laid off. I never missed a birthday or graduation or ANY personal event in my life for the company, and I'm glad I didn't.

never went hunting or fishing on the company dime, but did go to class on the company dollar. MUCHO dollars, in fact, via TAP assistance. When not in class, gaining knowledge & qualifications, I was one of the fools you mention, working 10/12 hour days, to gain experience. Laid off like you, off payroll 12/31/2015. Start new job in January, Got new job based on qualifications and experience, no hunting or fishing license was required.

It is sad right now. Not just for us losing our Jobs, but the company we once were so proud to work for is gone. I am confident it will get better as we all find new opportunities working for places where we are more appreciated.

There's an old saying in Yiddish that roughly translated into English says, "Nobody lays on their deathbed and says, gee I wish I spent more time at the office".
