Thank God we were RIF'd and Thank God we have our pension money on it's way to us before VZ is totally under water....thank you thank you thank you for the awesome severance package and for paying me to not work - My husband and I both got RIF'd and we're loving it! We were smart and got in on the 401K from the get go so ya we will take our 1.7 million and move on ...... the sad part is being dismissed as if you meant nothing - but then the 1.7 million I have saved makes me forget all about those bastards :)

as far as the couple w/ 1.7 million, thats 850k each. Both had pensions and 401k's thats a good true solid number

28 years at wireless no pension there....over the years salary originaed at 37.5 hours changed to 40 hours....vacation stripped ...and baby makers rewarded by both time off , insurance payouts, and more promotions...what are they trying to boost their corporate war machine...good luck with that . most kids don't know how many cylinders are in the car their mommy bought them!
I still think it is arrogant to post how much savings you have when some people on here can't sleep at night wondering how to pay mortgage, tuitions, health benefits....household bill, when the severance runs out ...and it will, very quickly...The job market is not looking good it you are over 40 and is NOT good for over 50+.

I got 23 Years in. 401k's just shy of $600k.
Buyout, were I to leave now, perhaps $220k.
But, if I keep on busily working away (if able) and saving for a rainy day until my 30th year, it blooms to $500k.
$500k, plus whatever my 401k equals by then makes the original poster's numbers seem reasonable enough for two people, though their 401k direction decisions must have been very poor ones. At least, if they had decent time in, but perhaps they were not too far into their careers?

I don't think it was bad of them to tell us what they saved for retirement. Everyone needs to do that. It has put them in a comfortable position now that the RIFs have come. Yes, it is terrible to be let go like you meant nothing to them after all those years. That is another lesson for everyone- don't give up everything for your job and put your family and health first and save for retirement.
