In Jan 2015, sources at IBM said IBM was laying off about 12,000 people next year (2016) and would be done in quarterly increments. IBM confirmed it would lay off between 11,000 and 12,000. http://techcrunch.com/2015/01/26/sources-say-ibm-planning-on-laying-off-12000-over-next-year/

Then AT&T sells its managed services and hosting applications unit to IBM in December 2015.

Been with this company when it did the same thing back in 2004-2005. AT&T sold it's desktop support group to IBM. IBM promised it would honor all AT&T contracts and pension/retirement benefits. In less than two years, it got rid of all the AT&T people and shipped it's support overseas to SE Asia and local contractors, hired through a local temp agency (10 - 12 dollars an hour) to provide the hands on support.

Writing is on the wall.
